Sir Radfordin Posted February 9, 2004 Report Share Posted February 9, 2004 Floppy/ CDROM/ HD may well be the normal sequence but there is no reason for it to be like this unless you want to boot from one of the removable media devices. There could be an argument that by adding these two in first the HD is given a chance to spin up and be ready when its turn to be the 'boot device' comes. I've run my system for years with the HD as the only boot devices apart from when troubleshooting and haven't had any problems. Also means that you don't get the problem of a floppy disk being left in the drive stoping the computer from booting! Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

This is needed when I install XP and I just leave it set that way. Many of the more recent machines I have built don't have a floppy drive anyway so the traditional sequence wouldn't work. It will vary from machine to machine and is dependent on what is installed.The facilities available also vary widely depending on the make and type of motherboard.My Abit favourites have many pages of BIOS settings. An Arock I was looking at recently had one page and very restricted adjustments.Remember that adjusting the BIOS can be very dangerous it you don't know what you're doing :( Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Perhaps we could all post our BIOS versions and get a more across-the-board understanding of different BIOS and O/S's. There can't be that many. For example, my 'comfy' machine is prehistoric.
