My phone regularly rings , during the day , when I'm normally out ...there is dead silence on the other end then it cuts out after 2 secs ...I think its waiting of a computer tone response .......

Ive also noticed a drop off in speed sometimes on my BB

making wonder if my comp in being used or accessed by somebody else ... (I don't normally get these paranoid thoughts till late at night and a few beers slurped.....)

A2 and AVG is up to date , so is zone alarm ....nothing found , but it dos make me wonder......

I believe that a lot of direct selling company's regularly dial out a large number of calls. The operators than deal with those that answer first and go into their sales spiel. If you answer a few seconds late and all the operators are busy, you just get silence.

Guest Rebel=UK=

what it is is the telesales companys computer rinings you, and when you pick up the phone it hangs up, the computer then, puts a tag beside you number saying what time it rang and this is the time a telesales peron will ring you next time, as it knows you will be in. To confuse this ya can hit the * key twice and it willl mess the computer up

If is it telesales, you can stop them by signing up to http://www.tpsonline.org.uk/tpsr/html/default.asp

You can also sign up to mps for junk mail, e-mps covering junk email and fps covering faxes.

Being signed up to these services makes it illegal for the various sales organisations to contact you via the method you have signed up for.

I used to be deluged with junk mail and faxes and my phone would ring 20+ times a day with telesales. I don't get any now.

e-mps will not, of course, stop spam.

Ive had a real problem with spam faxes in work too... I sent one back to state that I do not wish to receive anymore , and they multiplied 10 fold, making it unusable....

blasted pain in the but..........

Cheers for the limk pops ...I shall do so
