Agent Smith Posted February 16, 2003 Report Share Posted February 16, 2003 For what it's worth, I think you have the Forum about right when it comes to this aspect.It can be off-putting for people to "have" to register simply to browse the posts. I like the fact that anyone can come here, have a browse around, and if they like the Forum (I hope that most do :D ), they can join and make a valuable contribution.I am sure that as time goes by, the member base here will grow exponentially, as guests register and pass on the good news to their friends. In the mean time, surely it is good enough to believe that we have had people come here and either solve the problem they were trying to solve, or simply have a laugh at some of the threads. I believe that eventually these people will return and sign up to make their own comments, if not, it would be pointless having them as forced members simply to never return.Long may this Forum continue :rolleyes: Mr. Mouse. New members need to be able to browse the forum to see how good it is and then join as a consequence. If guests have access to all posts they can see how good the site is and hopefully they will register.On the other hand, if you don't feel you'll ever need to post or chat you get all the benefits without registering. Difficult one, this. On this topic, could we have a sort of advert for guests to view outlining the benefits of registration (or have we got something like that and I haven't seen it)? They would then hopefully sign up and post that answer.If they cannot see the thread initially, then we shall never know.Lets be honest with ourselves, when browsing in general, how many of us would honestly say that they would join a website (with all the possibilities of receiving spam email etc), simply to see what it is like.Mr. M. I don't think I ever posted anywhere as a guest, but I have often read new forums in guest mode. Then, if I felt like posting I would register.We had this same discussion over at the GAV forums a month or so ago and finally decided it was not in the best interests of the forum to not allow guests. :) There they can view AND post as guests.
