Wierd noise

Every so often my PC makes a wierd noise.

It's been happening for about a week now.

The noise is nigh-on impossible to describe but if I really had to describe it I'd say it sounded like a giant gong, being hit...under water..Or maybe the mating call of a male Moose:S

The first few times it happened,I had my browser open and I thought it might have been a daft ad with sound being run on Yahoo (My homepage)...but NO....It's happened when the browser isn't on.

So I thought it might be something in my taskbar.

In my taskbar I have Steam(A half life game launcher and I've asked other users and they assure me it's not that)

I know it isn't Avast4 AV and I'm pretty sure it it isn't "The Cleaner" because I've deactivated "sounds" in the menu.

I've run Spybot,Adaware,Hijackthis etc and I think I'm clean :S

Is anyone else getting a random sound of a gong underwater or is it just me :censored:

The sound is always the same pitch and duration(around half a second at a guess)

HELP!!! please

Shirl.

 so what are you doing when the gong goes off???  Are you sure you haven't got an underwater moose stalking you??

That is entirely probable but ultimately doubtful

Hi Shirley,

I don't know about the bling or the blong (wet gong), but I sure as hell am interested in the mating call of this mouse you've got :P . Does it sound female???

Oh heck, I've just reread and you said MOOSE :( . In that case, my money would definately be on a fan heading to the great cooler in the sky :( . Most likly to be the processor fan, but don't forget to check the case and graphics card fans if you have them. Also you can't rule out the possibilty of a hard disc becoming noisy.

Regards. Mr. M.
