Agent Smith Posted March 27, 2004 Report Share Posted March 27, 2004 Andsome, in case you had not noticed, Israel is currently engaged in what some may perceive to be state backed terrorism, and as such is bound to cause anti Israeli feelings. There are also several anti Muslim and Arab feelings for similar reasons.But, I think you will find that most, if not all of these type of comments are posted in the debates section, where they can be taken in context.I cannot recall anybody posting a reply stating that they would rather go without, than buy Israeli oranges or produce, simply because somebody had posted a topic about visiting the country.I was not, nor am I, seeking an apology for the comments you made, but simply making the point that they are ill-conceived and out of place.Yes, you have the ability to be blunt, but that I do not have a problem with. It is the fact that, from time to time, you seem to be able to engage your fingers with your keyboard, without any prior input from your brain which bothers me.Andsome, it is obvious from some of your postings that you are an intelligent and knowledgeable person. Please do not spoil this with rash, unthoughtful quick replies.Returning to the original topic, France can be a wonderful place to visit. It has tremendous history, fantastic scenery, friendly inhabitants and superb cuisine. Yes, they can be awkward and difficult but so can the British and the Germans and the Spanish and the Swiss and the - - - - - -.Before casting possibly ill-thought out criticism on ANY other nation, do a bit of self reflection and see if that criticism can be equally directed at yourself. TracyLynn Posted March 27, 2004 Report Share Posted March 27, 2004 I could care less if they use less soap and toothpaste, or if some of the women actually do not shave their body hair (I have heard this I don't know for sure) or if their wine doesn't taste like the ones I purchase from California, it is a city rich with art and history, incredible cuisine and a whole culture that I as a foreigner would find endlessly facinating... if I were offered a free plane ticket right now I would race to get a passport and I couldn't pack my bags fast enough!!! Tankus Posted March 27, 2004 Report Share Posted March 27, 2004 I like France But I prefer Spain for me hols.I couple of years back I spent an idyllic 2 weeks on a canal boat on the River Lot ,east of Bordeaux ,Parked up every night in another small village ,bought most of our food and wine from the farmers markets, Quite a few surprises from what I had previously experienced in France (Booze cruses .tooling down the toll roads to the south ) The poverty was an eyeopener , some bomb damage still left from the second world war , Very few young people left , hardly any children , The farms along the canal part looked around 100 acres or less and all market gardening ( I couldn't eat anymore strawberries for ages after ) All had signs up selling produce direct , at low prices and seemed almost pitifully happy when we paid . Horse drawn twin furrow ploughs still being used .....A few villages had hardly expanded past their still standing medieval walls ...very little new build (ie post 1900) And yet all the canals were well maintained ,fully automated electric powered locks ,the mills still worked on the locks and weirs ....people were fairly friendly, language barrier apart .......But the difference between the large (wealthier) towns and the country , is greater, than here in the UK ...
