Chris Posted March 28, 2004 Report Share Posted March 28, 2004 (Please wait whilst images load)If you are the only user of your Windows XP computer you may find it inconvenient to type a password each and every time at the Welcome screen.You can however remove the password logon by Clicking Start, Run and typing:control userpasswords2Now click OK.Uncheck the box next to: Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer.Now Click OK. [see pic below]Now type the name of the person that will be logged on by Windows [or just leave it as Administrator by default] and type a password. [see pic below]When you start your computer you should go straight to the desktop.Using TweakUIIt is possible to acheive the above by using TweakUI.Open TweakUI and click Logon and then AutoLogon.Check the box next to: Log on automatically at system startupNow Click Set Password and enter a password.Click OK and restart your computer where you should find you boot straight to your desktop. [see pic below]Please Note: If you find the above does not work and you are unable to Automatically Logon or enter a passsword at the welcome screen please boot to safe mode and reverse any changes you have made. I just got xp and i only have one user and i press the on switch and then it loads up and the destop appears. Chris Posted March 28, 2004 Author Report Share Posted March 28, 2004 When you install XP you enter a username and if you are the only user you will boot straight to the desktop.You can then add a password if you want which requires you to enter a password each time you want to use XP. AlanHo Posted March 28, 2004 Report Share Posted March 28, 2004 It's the same with me - I am the only user and did not enter a password when I set up Windows XP.Hence I just press the start button and my desktop appears after the usual boot machinations.However - I can well imagine the excellent info by powerless would benefit someone who did enter a password when they set up the computer originally, has only one account and does not want to be bothered with having to enter the password at boot up.
