Most definitely with andsome on this.

Kazaa and all its relations and clones are only for the suicidal amongst us.

The contents of my computer are very valuable to me and I would hate to see any of them destroyed by a careless action of mine like using one of these P2P programs (even taking into account that I have full backups).

If you are happy using this program, fine. You have every right to load whatever you want into your computer.

I was merely stating my views, which remain the same.

I think you are very lucky not to have caught anything nasty and the only person to my knowledge who uses these programs that hasn't required drastic treatment to remove, often insidious, infections.

I am very often being asked to look at various people's computers because of their misbehaviour. Very, very often there is Kazaa or something similar installed and the malfunction can be traced back to that.

I hope you remain infection free but, don't count on it remaining so.

I'd just like to remind everyone that K-lite is in itself ILLEGAL software, having been decompiled and rebuilt from Kazaa in violation of it's EULA.

There are numerous adware free P2P programs available without having to use the infested Kazaa network.

ok heres what i think on the whole music downloading thing, 10's of milliions of ppl, download music of the internet every second of every day right, why should i miss out on free music when millions & millions of other people all around the world r getting something for free. The music industry has had it to easy to long and, and failed to react quicker to this socalled "threat". They will always be music if its free r not, so i dont want to be hearing "r well your killing the music industry and the little artists".

For now its not the avarage joe blogs downloading the latest dance tune that the music industry wants to stop but the people who sell & share 1000's of them

Theres no point getting into a big conversation about this. This is how i see it, it is up to the person who wants to use the software and there is no point trying to change thier minds if they already know the risks.

The above comments are not something we want to see in WF we don't subscribe to them and we don't condone the sentiments, neither Music nor Software piracy is part of this site.

That comment is SO misinformed

Downloading mp3s,mpegs,jpegs,gifs using p2p software is absolutely SAFE as long as the p2p software isn't spyware riddled rubbish and the file extensions haven't been tampered with.

Downloading .exe files or files with dodgy extensions is a lot more risky.

Policemen,judges,Christians,your kids,your friends...download music via p2p apps....FACT!

You'd be VERY surprised how many people use p2p to download the odd few .mp3 files.

I've been using p2p sharing apps for around 4 years now and I have never,EVER,picked up a nasty from them.

Shirl.

So, my comment is so misinformed. Why then do you continue and state a number of reasons why it may be correct?

As I stated previously, what you put into your computer is entirely up to you and I make no comment on the morality of using these facilities.

Even though the P2P program you use may be as pure as the driven snow, remember that to obtain anything useful by this method you are entering other people's computers. These computers may have heaven knows what nasties inside them ready to be released on an unsuspecting user or visitor. It's bad enough having email messages loaded with undesirables, this has become one of those facts of computer life, but to go out deliberately encouraging them strikes me as unwise, in the least.

I still stand by what I originally wrote.

If I went out and was mugged, it wouldn't be the first time.

You seem to be avoiding my point. What you put into your computer is, in the main, your own affair and, again, I wouldn't presume to lecture on the morality of any of your doings.

If you have not been caught by anything nasty, you have been very lucky. Are you certain there isn't anything you would rather not have already installed?

I am reminded of the multitudes of people who have no backups of their computer systems in the belief that it "can't happen to me".

Believe me, there will come a time when you will wish you had never heard of Kazaa or anything like it. Enjoy while you can.

I dont think luck comes into in its common sense more then anything, every file downloading is scanned & scanned again when downloaded.

Im not saying i dont get the odd virus warning cos i do, but then i know my Norton is doing its job

going to close this as its about personal opinions, people must weigh up the risks involved with p2p and decide if its worth it,to some p2p is a very important part of there computer use while others see it as a great threat to theres,I personally dont use it but if anyone else wants to then I have no problems with that.
