D4\/!d Posted April 2, 2004 Report Share Posted April 2, 2004 I have recently started using XP Pro, and coz of all the problems using Norton with XP, I am running AVG and Kerrio.I have been using Win98SE (FAT32) for some time with NortonAV.Am I right in saying that AVG just looks for Virus. It doesn't deal with any it might find on my XP NTFS setup.If/when I get hit with a virus what should I use to Quarantine/Clean/Remove the nasties. mark2 Posted April 2, 2004 Report Share Posted April 2, 2004 Any viruses it finds it will attempt to heal or quarantine, but there are some that it will not be able to, these typically will be in restore points or possibly in files in use.Those in the restore points can be cleaned by disabling system restore, scanning with AVG then re-enabling system restore.Other troublesome files can probably be beaten whilst in safe mode. And it finds a nasty. And say, it cannot deal with it.Can I restore my clean Restore Point that I made tonight, and all will be well ?Clear as Mud! nellie2 Posted April 2, 2004 Report Share Posted April 2, 2004 I'm not an expert on this but my understanding is that it is not a good idea to restore to an earlier time when you are infected with a virus as system restore will only restore system files and the virus can just re-infect your system.If you get infected with a virus that your av can't deal with... which is unlikely if you keep it up to date then post here and we may be able to help you with it.
