[Resolved]-Check disk problem

My computer runs XP Home NFTS. It has suddenly started to want to run Check disk in an endless cycle on start up. When I start up if I allow check disk to run it does so and then starts again. If I stop it running the computer starts up OK and apparently runs perfectly normally. No system restore points work. If I try to defrag whether using Windows defrag or Diskeeper 7, I get a message to the effect that check disk has been set and defragging cannot take place until check disk has been run.

Go to Number 82 and select the Disable option and download and save to your desktop.

Double click to run the file. That should stop Check disk running at every boot.

As your machine is running fine I doubt there's anything wrong with it. The above is a simple registry tweak and does the work for you.

You can't defrag because Chkdisk is scheduled to run and won't allow a defrag first.

As an aside, I have found that stopping Check disk from running, simply by hitting any key when you see the blue screen at boot, it will give up trying to run after about ten boots or so.

Unfortunately there is still one problem. When I try to defrag the 'C' drive I get the window shown below. This occurs whether I try to use Windows defrag or Diskeeper 7 defrag. Do you think it is possible that a corruption in Diskeeper 7 caused the problem in the first place? My second hard drive which is for storage will defrag in seconds, I have tried running a separate check disk first but the drive will still not defrag.

andsome I had the same problem with diskeeper a while back, funny enough it was when I ran supercleaner of all things that reported corruption in my nvidia folders and told me too run checkdisk and that solved it,my guess is its not corruption in diskeeper but elsewhere.

It's all solved completely now. I ran check disk three time to no avail. It was while trying for the fourth time that I realised that check disk only does three operations, and I remembered that Norton does the job in FIVE. After running Norton disk doctor, everything is perfect. I think a major corruption must have occurred when I made three coasters with Nero. I had to reinstall it. It was when I tried to run a Boot time defrag that the trouble first showed itself. What made Nero go ballistic will probably always remain a mystery. Thanks everyone.
