trackrat Posted April 18, 2004 Report Share Posted April 18, 2004 Have installed Fedora, but cannot get it to connect to the internet.The connection is a broadband cable modem which is connected to a router and run to each computer with cat5 cables.The XP computer works OK.I have tried the Internet setup wizard from system tools and have tried setting it up on xDSL and Ethernet but no joy.Can you give me any suggestions as to what I am doing wrong.I like the look of Fedora and want to learn about it, but a lot of the Help modules are on line.Any suggestions appreciated, as I am determined to get it working. :wub: Regards Alan Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

trackrat Posted April 18, 2004 Author Report Share Posted April 18, 2004 Have just had a reply from the Fedora forum and apparently my N-Force 2 mobo is not supported by Fedora and the way around it I just do not understand. it involves downloading drivers for the motherboard and 1 complete page of commands that have to be typed in and I just cannot follow it.Their is Apt & Yum and I do not now anything about these, so I have not got a clue what I need to download Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Nvidia does provide drivers, but under a proprietary style license.The current version of Nvidia's driver page is here. Also see the readme.Nvidia doesn't build for Feodra, nor does the main Fedora build, but rpm.livna.org does. They are down at the moment, but there is a mirror. Update your kernel to the latest (yum update kernel) then get the appropriate kernel-module-nvidia rpm. Run code:--------------------------------------------------------------------------------uname -p--------------------------------------------------------------------------------to see what processor type to get. Then download, change to root, and install: code:--------------------------------------------------------------------------------su -<enter root password>rpm -ivh <rpm filename>--------------------------------------------------------------------------------Also see the nvidia-glx rpms, I believe they are for graphics cards.Disclaimer: I don't have nvidia.
