A billion is a million million and a trillion in a million million million i.e. 1 followed by 18 noughts. Unfortunately the language has been diluted (or contaminated) by our recent colonial friends across the pond. Generally they have chosen to use smaller units so it always looks as though you're getting more fro your money. US gallon etc. All part of the sales method. The fact of the matter is that it is almost certainly illegal but is being done at such a high level that we, the poor suckers at the bottom, have absolutely no redress.
