nellie2
Have you rebooted? Have you checked device manager to see if it is showing up there?
Agent Smith
Does the device appear in Device Manager? If not, is it listed in the Bios after a reboot? If none of the above, then I would suggest opening your pc and checking that none of the cables have worked loose, check both ends of the IDE cable, and the power leads. If it does appear in either of the above, then post back with the relevant info.Mr. M. -pops-
This happened to me a few weeks ago (reported here). As Mr Mouse says, it was all due to the IDE cable working iteslf loose. Only by a minuscule amount but enough to make to the drive unknown to the computer.
Guest Blink_182_fan
1. The device does show up in device manager2. If i reboot i may not be able to access the internet for about 1-2 HoursAnd if the IDE cable was not in properly would that not mean that the cd drive would not open because it does
Guest ellas
uninstall it from device manager and reboot and lets see if windows finds it and installs it.
-pops-
With mine the device showed in Device Manager and it opened/closed as normal. The IDE connector was a tiny fraction (only moved a very small amount) out of kilter but it was enough to stop it working.

-pops-
In my example (above) the drive was in BIOS and in Device Manager but for some reason I could not fathom, did not appear in My Computer and was, for all intents, not there. The drawer opened and closed as it was supposed to but that was all. Just a slight push on the IDE cable (with the power off!!!!) restored everything to correct working.
