leotoff
Pc turns itself off; this has happened three times in the last 24 hrs. I have done a virus check along with ad-aware,spybot, spybouncer and Stinger but to no avail. This obviously happens without any warning and only happens whilst surfing. No prior error message or blue screen.Xp Pro SP 1Mozilla version

Scarecrow Man
That's the easiest answer. Chances are a file somewhere has become corrupt.
ranger
I found that this was happening to me when a broadband modem I used to have needed the drivers upgraded, it was the Alcatel USB modem
-pops-
If I may interject, a very common cause of spontaneous shutdown is CPU or PSU overheating. CPU overheating may be due to several things such as a fan failure, inefficient fan cooling concomitant with the CPU working at, or near, 100% for a continous period.PSU overheating could be fan failure or some component in a fault condition drawing excessive current for a long period.Assuming your computer is fairly modern, there is often a diagnostic utility included with the motherboard software from which you can obtain information about the running conditions of your computer. Other than that, there are independent utilities available which will do a similar job. One is http://www.almico.com/speedfan.php or http://mbm.livewiredev.com/ Note: I've not used either of these programs so I am unable to vouch for them. They are recommended elsewhere, however. Perhaps another Forum member can add a comment about these programs.

leotoff
Thanks for the input, me thinks it's the CPU temp. causing the problem and may have to go in the bios to do some alterations, but I've looked at the Speedfan website and it definitely looks interesting.
