Damo
Hi wilt, one or two questions if it's ok, just about to try this now!. You'll have to excuse me if these questions are dumb, but ummmm I am dumb! :D You might find that this file has root access only, to fix that, cd to /ect/ and type:chown *USERNAME* resolv.confThat should fix it if not, try:chown *USERNAME* resolv.conf -RI presume I put my isp connection username in place of USERNAME but do I leave the asterisks?then what you need to do is go to /etc/ppp/ and find resolv.confDo I actually type: find resolv.conf ? or do I have to manually search though folders?Thats all for now!Damo

Damo
Thanks scuzzman. One more Q if its ok?I'm struggling to put the microcode into the Speedtouchconf directory, everytime I try to copy/move it there, it comes up with access denied? I've had a look in the properties for it, but all the permission boxes are greyed out! Is there a way around this or can I copy it through a terminal?TaDamo
Wilt
you need to chown the directory your putting it in,chown *LINUXUSERNAME* /folder/name/ -R
Damo
Ahhh ok, ill give it a try when I get home at 2am!!I was thinking of going into a terminal a root and CHMOD (ing) the directory, but then I remembered something from my unix days, that changing the directory permissions like that will also alter all the stuff within that directory which will probably mess everything up!!!Thanks Wilt, I'll give it a go! Wilt
you need to be logged in as root on terminal to chmod it, all it does it change the owner to you instead of root, so you can access it.Oh, and don't leave the asterisks2am, ouch. Damo
the god damn trauma continues!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.........................I was very kindly supplied Mandrake 10.1 by a generous member of the forum, so instead of going ahead with completing the above script installation I decided to get rid of 9.1 and install 10.1, all went well, it all installed with no problems, then I went to boot it up and it hangs on: 'Activating swap partitions' !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Do I have any luck at all???? :DSo, how do I get around this? What are swap partitions? Does linux have a 'safe mode' where I can get around this? or is this a system critical proccess that can't be bypassed?I am quite literally about to launch my laptop across the room!TaDamo
Damo
OK, Ignore the above, I went back to 9.1 and I've only got one word to say................... WOOOOHHHOOOOOOOOOOO ................................... I'm typing this on Linux!!!!!!!!!!!!!I'm extremely chuffed! AND extremely grateful to everyone for the help I have received, especially from Wilt, Mark2, Powerless and scuzzman, plus everyone else who helped!!!It's been a pretty cool challenge! Something the forum should introduce again!!OutDamo
