bvw
I've seen enough drunken kids on the streets to last me a lifetime. We have a problem in this country with drunken youngsters.Perhaps the States and their 21 age limit should be introduced here. popeye
ONE drunken kid can be dealt with but it's when they roam around the streets in a drunken gang, thats when the trouble starts.

Besty
White lightning is rocket fuel. We dont roam in gangs we often go camping and bring stuff to drink. There is always someone sober to keep us in control and stop bad stuff happening :) were very organised
homecomputeraid
I saw on Int'l News that there's quite a crackdown going on somewhere in Britain concerning underage drinking? For those of us of age though, have fun! :)

joysness
There have been several deaths related to alcohol poisoning at colleges here in the States recently and some of the schools are banning all drinking on campus. The age limit doesn't seem to make any difference. The minors still get it quite easily.Such a shame, IMO, as alcoholism is rampant here, and it is such a devastating disease for everyone.I know people who's lives have been ruined from it and there are so many other ways to enjoy life. I'm not against alcohol, but I do think kids need to be taught the bad side of it at an early age so that if they decide to drink they do so in a responsible way. bvw
The problem we all have is that 14yr old children think they know it all...whereas, in fact, they know next to nothing.
andsome
The problem we all have is that 14yr old children think they know it all...whereas, in fact, they know next to nothing.Very true words. Even at fourteen I would have thought that a person with even the remotest bit of intelligence, would hardly think it clever to make themselves look absolutely stupid by taking an excess any form of drug. A man is a person who can enjoy a drink or two with friends and still stay sensible, and not make a fool of himself. Anyone who thinks that they look good staggering round everywhere, shouting and screaming deserves to fall under a bus, and get put out of their misery. I enjoy a drink as much as anyone else, but have NO intention of making myself look stupid by drinking to excess. I can see NO pleasure in staggering round the streets shouting abuse, and vomiting everywhere. You only have ONE liver. What is the point of killing it off and shortening your life. andsome
So you two missed 14 then?NO, but I am sure that I had a damned sight more sense than a good many of todays fourteen year olds. I had no need to get stinking drunk and make a nuisance of myself. I had a very good time, playing football and cricket, going to the cinema, chatting up the girls etc. I smoked at an early age because in those days we were not aware of the potential damage that this could do. With all the evidence in front of you today, I would have thought that anyone with even the tiniest bit of common sense, would look after their bodies better. Teenage idiots running round bawling their heads off and making nuisances of themselves DO NOT LOOK MANLY AND GROWN UP, they just look pathetic and CHILDISH. Besty
Not all 14 year olds are always yobs when we are drunk. Yes im sure you al had a good time at the age of 14 but at the end of the day different people like to do different things. Would you prefer us to all get dope or heroin? -pops-
Would you prefer us to all get dope or heroin?Read my earlier reply.I am really sorry for people whose lives are so devoid of anything more tangible than the "buzz" induced by these materials. You will find after a while that the euphoria, if that it be, will diminish such that you require ever increasing amounts of whatever it is to maintain the same effects on your brain. These, at the same time, produce increasingly toxic effects on the physical being. The results are oft being demonstrated and publicised in the so called "celebrities" who succomb. The effects are not limited to these lost "souls" - the only way these persons have an advantage over the lesser users is that they possibly have the means to partake without having to resort to crime to finance the habit.Leave it all alone and enjoy a genuine life, not one propped up by an existence inside a bubble of illusion. Bubbles have a tendency to burst.

don't ask
Hey Besty - some of us are Mums and Dads - it frightens us to think of what may happen to our children (or has already happened). It is why we react the way we do!We love them and want them to enjoy life and have a good future - we do care and worry and, believe it or not, we do understand what you are saying - most of us have been there, done that, or experienced things that have affected our children ('children' meaning from the age of weeks old to forty or so).I'm not an ageist - just a Mum. I believe in you.Have a great Christmas and I hope 2005 is good to you.

Pilch
With kids today i think it is a case of if they cant have it they want it.Alcohol is one prime example. So they will do anything to get it, take out of parents drink cupboard, fake id you name it.At my old school people where going into pub's and club's at the 14/15.Me i didnt start drinking till 16. That wasnt heavy, just a couple of smirnoff ices a weeked.... Parents didnt mind as i drank in front of them. Of course there where times in devon i would drink more than i care to remember....Now i am 20 drinking really doesnt bother me too much, of course i still like jack daniels (Known to drink a bottle in an evening) but normally i wont and ill only drink on special occasion's. I am quite happy to go to a bar have one or 2 JD's and just sip them, unwind talk to people (which is what i done this summer whilst away) and every so often a special event and have a few more than usual. But one thing people seem to forget. I know it seems crazy but i think the law still states that children at the age of 5 can have some form of alcohol not quite sure on quanities as it is a long time ago i heard this. But the way to stop under age drinking really is to make anyone under the age of 18 have ID card's. I know most wont like it, but if shop's enforced this and there was one card that was universal ie not 5 maybe 6 types(thus stops fake id's), then i would expect that it would cut the problem out but what is also needed is some first hand experience (talking to and biology based) of what it does to you not just short term but long term aswell.I can understand where besty is coming from with camping and drinking, but sometimes i know this would worry most parent's, but a shock to what can happen has a much greater effect than anything else... andsome
You are still only a child yet and NOT old enough to use alcohol. Most of us on here are old enough, and are not so childish as to feel the need to get ourselves incapable. When you are grown up a bit, by all means have a few drinks, but enjoy it and still remember the enjoyment next day, without making yourself feel ill. As I said before, you DO NOT look big and manly when you are not fully in control of your self, just stupid and rather pathetic.
don't ask
Poor Besty - the guy posted a tongue in cheek link - he doesn't deserve to be harangued by us on the subject - that is what his own parents are for!! ;) Can we lighten up on the lad folks - I like him and respect him a lot, he knows right from wrong - I don't want to think that we have dampened his youthful spontaneousness (is that a word! ). It would be good to think he can come on here and feel he is not going to be castigated for being a young man (with everything that goes with it).As I said - I believe in him.(I'm a grandparent too!)
