doug
Now I feel a bit more secure I've been trying to get an estimate for gas and electric bills from Scottish Power (Npower has been giving nothing but problems with incorrect estimates).I go to the home page and click on get a quote for electric and gas, type in my Post Code and then next but nothing happens. I've tried disabling firewalls (short times only) with no luck. Am running Mozilla Firefox, Do I need Java or soething like that?Going to have to get that spull chucker working again. andsome
Doug we have also been looking around. If you look at London Energy's website you can check to see if they operate in your area. If they do you can then go to U Switch and see a phone number there. Give them your last twelve months usage figures and ask for a comparison with their ONLINE account. We are going to save over £140 per annum.
doug
Any suggestions I'll follow up tomorrow after I've I get back from having my cast redone. Just used IE and that allowed me to get what I wanted from Scottishpower so it definitely looks like a java problem.
rong
Not sure but some sights don't work on anything but Explorer.
-pops-
Agree with rong - try I.E. I've had loads of trouble with the gas, electricity and water companies because of their narrow mindedness in not believing there is any altenative browser to I.E. Scarecrow Man
Done that SC but still getting problems, see screen shot. bvw
Doug....try Powergen, they are cheaper I believe. No increase in prices for gas & electric recently...despite the recent price rises for everyone else. You can supply your own meter readings. doug
Tried that site again with no luck. Also don't get anything like your screeshot. What's netbeans for?
Scarecrow Man
When you install the package, choose custom install. Don't change any options, just look at what it does and make judgements based on your system."NetBeans started as a student project in the Czech Republic (originally called Xelfi), in 1996. The goal was to write a Delphi-like Java IDE in Java. A company was formed around this project, called NetBeans. There were two commercial versions of NetBeans, called Developer 2.0 and 2.1. Around May of 1999, NetBeans released a beta of what was to be Developer 3.0 - some months later, in October '99, NetBeans was acquired by Sun Microsystems. After some additional development time, Sun released the Forte for Java Community Edition IDE - the same IDE that had been in beta as NetBeans Developer 3.0.You probably dont need it. -pops-
Java or not, some sites do not accept any alternative to Internet Explorer as a web browser where money is involved. This not only applies to the utility companies that I mentioned above but also to certain commercial sites. I had loads of trouble a few weeks ago with the ebuyer site. It would accept my request as far as going to the checkout and then it froze. Changing from my standard Firefox to I.E. allowed my to place my order without a problem. There is at least one other computer supplier site in my experience that behaves the same way.
doug
Chris was over at the weekend and had a good rummage. It looks as though the problem is due to some sites only being capable of handling IE. I managed to do what I wanted using IE then shut it down.
