madboy33
Hi all I will in the next few weeks be buying a barebones system from Novatech http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/specpage.html?BB-6432BUB However, does the PSU of 300 watts seem a little low?I will be adding the below items 1 ATI 128MBDDR card (AGP) 1 DVD-ROM 1 DVD-RW1 Floppy Disc Drive Operating System is XP PROUse the computer for gaming and Heavy photo editing so the spec is ok, just wondering about the PSU thats all. trackrat
I am just putting together an amd 64 3500 and have a 480w power supply.300w will power yours but will not leave much to spare.Madboy you might find this article useful.http://www.techspot.com/vb/topic20325.html
Boris
Tony,Why not save a bit of cash and just get their motherboard bundle ? The PSU on this one is OK - but very little spare capacity IMHO. I recommend you get a case of your own choice with at least a 350w PSU (preferably 400w).I've built systems using all 3 of their stock AMD64 bundles (3.0, 3.2 + 3.4) since Christmas - no problems at all with any of the bundles. Mobo manual supplied is good. Easy to connect up the front USBs etc.The RAM they use is generic - branded V-Data or something like that. I've got 2 512 sticks of it in this PC (can't remember the name for sure)CAS - 2.5 RCD - 3RP - 3RAS - 8Its stable enough for most use (unless you want to o/c seriously). The board they quote for this and the bundles is the Foxconn 755A01-6EKRS. Its nice - easy to work on, but can also come as a WinFast with a different no.If you do build your own rather than go bare-bones - feel free to ask anything :)

madboy33
Build your own........mmmmmmmmmmmmBorisLittle bit apprehensive there as knowing my luck i will mess it up.I know i have added quieter cooling fans to my PC and removed the CPU before etc etc but it just seems a little daunting building my own as i get a little frustrated although i was looking to take the plunge with a self build, but need a little more bottle. So i shall think about it over the next few weeks and Boris if i do i will be bugging you left right and centre mate :D
trackrat
Madboy you can bug me as well. :D
Boris
Oh - if you only lived a bit closer ? :D Seriously - a complete novice put this board into a case and connected it up (under my guidance) in an hour or so. He had never, ever even seen inside a PC before that morning ! The jumpers on the board even have little tags on them so you don't need tweezers/long-nosed pliers to clear the CMOS ! Boris
PS the "cheaper" Novatech cases (under £25) look nice, BUT when you try to remove the standard I/O shield to fit the board specific one - on most you need tin snips (and a box of plasters) as they're so badly pressed (except for the cheap £19 Erato, where its held in by 2 screws). Most of their cases have a 350W branded Hercules PSU - which seems quite OK in practice.
trackrat
This is the PSU i brought.http://www.raptor-mods.co.uk/index.php?review&id=836&page=1The one you provided the link for looks very good with a 17amp output on the +12 volt rail. Nice guide for the forum. :)

Scarecrow Man
Be careful when getting a PSU.For example...A 380watt TRUE Power PSU is often better than a 400watt SMART Power PSU.

Can i keep those ports?Yes you can but you will need to reconnect them to the appropiate pins on the motherboard. This shows you how to do it.http://www.directron.com/installusb.html
