andsome Posted March 16, 2005 Report Share Posted March 16, 2005 I thought it was one of the best books that I have read. The Catholic church, as with ALL religions needs to look at itself. If it looks into history, it will see that almost all wars and troubles have been caused by religion, and peoples gross intolerance of other peoples religious view. From the point of view of Catholicism, how on earth can anyone really believe that men who have NO experience of a full life, and are not supposed to have anything to do with women, can hope to understand what life is all about. The Davinci code was right about one thing, and that is the views of the church regarding women and their place in society. If only the whole world would scrap religion altogether, and concentrate on helping their fellows instead of killing them, wouldn't it be great? Religion has outlived its usefullness and it is time to move on. After all, religion was something which was invented by a clever and educated minority, to control an uneducated and gullible majority. Although not enough has been recognised of the sameness of religion and politics. They are in fact two sides of the same coin, and the coin is "control". Both use fear and reward/ carrot and stick. If you do as we say you will be O.K., but if you do not you will reap terrible consequences. It just so happens that only we know truly what you should do and, by a great piece of good fortune, that just happens to be in our interest. Anyone can become a "we" if they are hypocritical, two faced and underhand enough in their efforts to become a "minister".There will now be a silver collection. Anyone who has read "Age of Reason" by Thomas Paine will have got there before me. The Catholic church was founded on just such a thing.To anyone who has not read it ....it's a jolly good read.
