-pops- Posted April 20, 2005 Report Share Posted April 20, 2005 Went to do my update today for a-squared and, instead of just doing it, like it normally does, it went to their website and told me that my a-sqaured personal edition trial had expired and to pay $39.99 to continue using it.Now, excuse me but, my version of this software was the free one. I checked in all the places I could think of and it was confirmed that I had the free version installed. I tried and tried to get it to update my free version but to no avail.I uninstalled it and re-installed hoping in desperation that it might just be suffering a wobbly. I was told to re-register. I tried and was told I was already registered and to check my email for the registration code. I did this and tried to re-register. I was taken back to the website as before.I have this software working on two other machines from the same registration code. I checked them. They are the free version (as was the orginal). They updated OK.I wrote the other day that I will not use software that messes me about so, another security program in the bin.I was asked at one point during the shenanigins why I was removing the program from my computer. Though I expect you have already deleted the relevant a2 cookie(s)?It's a shame that you have had to dump a2 as I find it an excellent anti-trojan scanner. andsome Posted April 21, 2005 Report Share Posted April 21, 2005 I too have had problems with A squared after a reinstall. It took a lot of fiddling about to get things right. My present licence also expires in 3000 AD. Are you certain that you did not download a trial version of the full program, instead of the restricted free version? -pops- Posted April 21, 2005 Author Report Share Posted April 21, 2005 Definitely the free version - I've installed from the same download on other machines and they all say free version - this one did until it threw a wobbly.Now that it has planted things in my registry that makes it think its a paid-for version, trying to re-load the freebie just doesn't work. They confess to a cockup with their free version.One of the updates contained information for the "Personal" edition which wrongly downloaded into the "Free" and converted it.Their solution is close A2, then open explorer. Go to the a2 folder then delete the following two folders "a2guard.exe" and "a2handler.dll" then close explorer open a2 and check for updates and all will be fixed.I did this and it worked.
