ɹəuəllıʍ ʇɐb
Avatar size is limited to 90x90px; what is the reason for that?
Scarecrow Man
Dial-up. :) And we thank you for it! :P 50k would take approximatley 5 seconds to download, now imagine 10 avatars in a post.. that's almost a minute just for avatars!edit: notice your avatar is 6k and mine is 2k... Still takes a second or two to load them... :(
ɹəuəllıʍ ʇɐb
I do understand that :) but the "heaviness" limit for this board is 50KB. So an avatar of 158x90px that is 10KB is still "lighter" than a 90x90px of 40KB or more. But you are right, of course: if I were to extend my current 62x62 avatar to 158x62, then it would most likely get heavier than it is now. (I actually already made it --- it is 129KB! ).Wanna see it?
catgate
This is an interesting topic. I have always thought that the Avatar was supposed to be a simple, quick means of identifying the contributor/member as one quickly scans down the forum. I can not imagine what other constructive use it can have. However, with the ever increasingly exotic creativity that goes into these things, it seems as though they are becoming more important than the post itself. There are so many that change so often that it is now becoming easier to forget the Avatars and just read the contributors' names. But then, what do I know about the price of cheese. Scarecrow Man
I don't see a reason to extend the avatar sizes. Sure there is more room, but I believe a 90x90 (square) looks better than a 158x62 (rectangle) just because of the shape. I can glance over a forum, look along the left hand side, and almost immediatley know who has posted. I have a photographic memory.... not really, but I am here almost every day! the only one that gets me sometimes is expertec and pwillener... but then again, a closer look and I can distinguish them :P (so much for photographic memory....!) Scarecrow Man
fairy > fairiesfaery > faeriesThere are (at least) two ways to spell it. :) Although, Spellbound in firefox detects faery as wrong, and suggests firey or fairy... but it does not detect faeries...
