Tony Posted July 5, 2005 Report Share Posted July 5, 2005 Hi allI am after a digi camera up to £150.00, as a gift for my father.It has to be easy to use as he is not a very tech headed guy (still can't program the video sort of thing)Just point and click would be fine, with the basic settings available for use, if he wants.Optical zoom is a must and 256Mb card.He would like to be able to take the camera or the mem card to a shop to get his photos printed, as he is not that comfortable with computers.I will set it up and show him how to view the pics on the PC, then he can delete what he does not want.I saw Kodak were doing a camera with a printer doc that prints out the photos right away, but i have no clue how much this was.My camera is a cheap Samsung Digimax A400 with 4 meg pixels, this was well in the price range, but there must be better out there for the budget we have.Could you also include prices (High Street) as i don't have time to buy from the Internet, well i say that, but we must have the camera by the 15th July, i can also compare the English prices to over here in Germany and buy here if it is cheaper.Thanks very much for any helpRegardsTony Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Almost any of the popular named brands are producing cheaper and cheaper digi cameras. Digital zoom only enlarges the centre of the picture and therefore increases pixel size, thereby reducing image quality. Look for the longest optical zoom possible when making your choice. Mega pixel ratings have all incresased dramatically. I get perfect resulte with 3.1 megapixels, so look for at least that. To my mind some cameras are getting too miniature, so bear in mind the handling qualities. Make sure that it fits neatly into the hand and it's easy to click the shutter button. The internal memory will store 10 images at its top megapixel rating of 5.1 down to 52 images at 1 MP. It will also accept optional memory cards of up to 512MB. It is basically point and shoot, but there are many features when a user gets familiar with it, (internal red-eye removal, recording video clips, optical and digital zoom etc.) I saw earlier today that it was available at www.pixmania.com for £139, so I suppose that is a guide price.Good luck.Thos. korgg Posted July 6, 2005 Report Share Posted July 6, 2005 Canon PowerShot S1 IS This one is my recomandation .You may find there some Olympus models that deserve your attention and some from Nikon :) nd also Fuji has some very good cameras (try S5500)...Also check http://www.steve-digicams for some reviews ... Good luck... I have a Minolta DiMAGE Z3 now, which is more like a familly camera and I'm quite happy about it ... But the image stabilisation from Canon is far better and i think it's worth the money ...The prices are from Mediamarkt in Germany :) ..
