Discussion About Which Email Client To Use

Hi,

We are looking for an e-mail client to replace MS Outlook. We currently run on Exchange Server, and need a client that will leave messages on the server (or at least has the option).

It also needs to be able to handle Calander and meeting requests, along with additional mailboxes and a Global Address Book.

We are looking to switch to Open Office, so we would prefer the client to be compatible.

Obviously, we are looking for something as cheap as possible, preferably freeware would be nice.

You may be asking a bit much from the free ones, but here's a couple to look at

Thunderbird You'd need the diary/calender plugin.

Mozilla Calendar is usable either integrated into Firefox, or Thunderbird and as a stand alone application called Sunbird.

I do not think that Thunderbird supports MS Exchange Server.

I don't either. We use MS Office 2K3 for our exchange server, running win2k3. I've have not seen any freeware.

I don't think Pegasus can either. http://www.pmail.com/overviews/ovw_winpmail.htm " it can send and receive Internet mail on its own using standard protocols (SMTP, IMAP and POP3)"

OK so we're stretching things a bit, but this may be worth a look 602LAN free for up to 5 users.

and don't forget the original Pegasus link also linked to Mercury.

I still think that the original spec is a too much for a free option.

A Google for "outlook alternatives" produces 1,350,000 hits. Some of those look potentially useful.

This may well suit your needs

Barca Calendars, Email, Planner , it is not free though, it cost $ 59.00 but there is a free trial there. There is a Pro version aswell at $ 79.00, but you will have to read up on the differances between them.

I use there Poco Mail and i can not fault it, i have tried all the other free email progs but did not them in some way or another, so i tried poco then i paid for it

(Poco Mail does not come with a calender or planer).

There are very good support forums on there site for there products they make.

Worth a try.

How about Novell Netmail they also have free evaluation download. We used to use it at one of my old employers and I think it's got everything you want.
