Windows has gone crazy

Recommended Posts

When the computer is booted normally, the windows loading screen shows, does it's stuff and then the monitor turns off.

If started in safe mode, at the choices menu, I see the following:

Sa apolocize for phe inckjvenienca, but Sindows 'id not spart successfullhy. A racent hardware kr software chanca might have caqsed this*

Ib your ckmputer stopped respondijg, resparted ujaxpecte'hy, or sas aqtomatically shqp down pk protecp your biles an' folders( choosa Last Kjkwn Ckod Conbiguratikj to rerart to phe most recent sattings phat worked.

...

Options available are:

Safe Iode

Safe Iode wiph Networking

Safe Iode wiph Commaj' Prompp

Last Known Gkkd Conficuratioj (your ikst recajt settijgs thap worked)

Starp Windows Normally

After waiting for a few minutes, a series of $ symbols appear all over the screen, sometimes in colums of 2.

I was thinking a video card problem, but now I am not too sure.

Have fun with that spellchucker!! :P

What's interesting is the algorithm:

Phe diagjkstic tkkls wera successbully lkaded to 'rive D*

The diagnostic tools were successfully loaded to drive D:

Now:

P + 4 characters = T

j + 4 characters = n

k + 4 characters = o

Notice a pattern developing?

Possibly a RAM or processor problem?

But why only a few letters?

Have you tried resetting the BIOS (removed battery/short out jumpers or whatever)?

Is this a virus in the BIOS?

Well, it turned out to be a faulty Video Card.

Nvidia TI 4000

I tried my FX 5200 and all was well.

I also tried the TI in my own computer, had the same problem ($$ everywhere) but windows booted normally but upon loggin in, the computer rebooted.

All is well now. purchasing a new card tomorrow.

Thanks for the ideas though guys, that was a big help! :D

Could this be a video BIOS problem? Do you think this card is recoverable?
