andsome Posted October 3, 2005 Report Share Posted October 3, 2005 Of course Turkey wants to join the EU. Their politicians see it as a wonderful gravy train, and more jobs for the boys and girls. The people see it as a gift from heaven, as we pay out to bring their standards up to ours. All that aside, do we really also need a predominately ASIAN country to become part of Europe, and do we really want a predominantly Muslim country to become part of Europe. There is more than enough terrorism going on in Europe as it is, without giving the freedom of entry to many more potential terrorists. I am NOT claiming that all Turks and all Muslims are terrorists, but it is difficult enough as it is, coping with immigration, without the expense of setting up even more reception centres and paying out yet more income support to even more people, while appeals are sorted out. It is also virtually a third world country and we cannot afford to pay for them to advance into the twenty first century, we have enough on our hands to pay for the former Warsaw Pact countries. As things stand at present, taking the so called rebate fully into account, every single pound of European money spent in the UK, costs us £1.67, so what is the point of the whole exercise in any case. It's already a massive burden upon the UK. Then there is also the security aspect to be taken into account.
