deuces wild Posted November 5, 2005 Report Share Posted November 5, 2005 The stores in the states had Christmas displays up already in mid October. :unsure: Going with the flow I decided to get my shopping done early (and easy) this year, starting today. I try to buy gifts over the net and have already purchased my wifes BDay (12-13) and Christmas gifts.......she loves LL Bean and Lands End. My son and daughter make it easy also by letting us know what they want...usualy available to purchase on line. I will, however, make my annual journey and wake up at 5 a.m. the day after Thanksgiving (known as Black Friday in the states) to get some fantastic bargains, most of which (after rebates) end up being free. http://www.bfads.us/ So when do you start your shoppig or ist this too early to discuss? Celebrated sometime in January, this festival is for the meanies of the world who buy their presents in the January sales. Also good opportunities for Christmas foods that didn't sell before December 25 and are consequently being sold off at a very cheap rate.I used to buy Christmas presents in the January sales ready for the next one but, in these days of galloping technology, this isn't a very good idea.The grandchildren are very happy about this arrangement because we will have a Christmas day lunch/dinner and exchange of minor gifts but then there is the "big" un-Christmas to look forward to shortly afterwards.Back to the subject, though. My local Tesco (supermarket) and most likely all others had started displaying Christmas stock immediately following the August bank holiday ready for the Christmas "rush" on 1st September, I suppose. We buy gifts for the grandchildren to open on Christmas morning, and one or two small gifts for others, then we visit the sales after Christmas. One local garden centre nearby, sectioned off a large area in July to start to prepare it for Christmas. Everyone locally then received a postal invitation to visit the grand opening at the end of September. This is the only time for many weeks that working arrangements* say that all of us can be together.* Not easy re-arranging a pilot's or a gynaecologist's work timetable.
