As soon as he got in, the party line changed to support the closure and his ex allies suddenly became the dangerous inhabitants of the lunatic fringe, especially when they dared to suggest to Tony Blairs face that he was a coniving two faces jerk.The volte face was not appreciated and as soon as the opportunity came the electorate gave him the boot. andsome Posted December 20, 2005 Report Share Posted December 20, 2005 One of his biggest recent lies, was to inform us up until only a few days ago that our EU budget rebate was safe and NON negotiable until the French agreed to do something about the C A P. Now he has sold us completely down the river. He claims to have got the French to agree to discuss the C A P again some time round about 2008, but has failed to point out that the French have reserved the right to veto any decisions made in this respect by the other nations. He just wanted to go down in history as having achieved a budget agreement. Before any of our American friends or others from overseas ask why we feel entitled to a rebate, an explanation is in order. The rebate was won by Maggie Thatcher because GB got so little out of the C A P and we were contributing far more than the rest of the countries. This still applies now. For every £1 that the EU spends in this country, we pay £1.67 in tax. The French and one or two others benefit greatly because their farms are so small and uneconomical.
