Have you been infected

Have you been or are you a victim of agressive spyware pushers? You know the sort, all of a sudden your desktop gets hijacked or you get mad pop ups telling you that your system is infected and the only way to deal with it is to buy their program.

I'm talking about the likes of Spyaxe, Winfixer, SpywareStrike and so on.

I'm not sure if you are aware of this, but a friend of mine, Nick, has been waging a campaign to get people to complain about this, after all, a crime is being committed. You can see what he has to say about it in his blog Fight Back Against Spyaxe

He asked if there was some similar organisation in the UK to the FTC in America... I've looked into this and there doesn't seem to be. This prompted me to get in touch with my Member of Parliament who I saw yesterday. See here for my write up about it.

So as you see, to carry Nicks campaign forward I need people to comment to my blog... or to post in the new room that ChrisRLG has created at MRU... guests can post.

http://forum.malwareremoval.com/viewforum.php?f=89

I specifically need information and comments from UK citizens... but anyone who wants to can stand up and be counted. So please post a comment to my blog here or in the dedicated comment forum at MRU. This is important and the only way we will be able to make a difference is to be pro-active.

Suzi Turner of Spyware Warrior has also blogged about it here

Nellie - just to advise that your message has not gone unnoticed.

I am possibly lucky - I have had no such problems - but I have so many spam, trojan, anti virus, pop-up blockers and firewire filters it's a wonder I can browse at all, or any Email messages get through

I get no bother thanks to excellent advice on here regarding Antispyware etc. Also I get VERY VERY little spam since changing my e-mail address to one which would make little sense to an auto dialler. Mailwasher is also a Godsend. I too did not miss the original posting of the thread, but did not want to clutter a serious topic when the answer is NO.

Thanks for all your comments, but if you know someone who has been infected or affected then please encourage them to put a comment in my blog and tell me their story, the only way I will get anything moving on this is if I can gather some victims..... so to speak!

I know my son's computer was infected with Winfixer because I cleaned it the other day. I sent a copy of your original post to them. I will remind them when I get the opportunity. I know they were heartily sick of the Winfixer appearing with what they now know to be false positives.

Thos.
