Tony Posted February 28, 2006 Report Share Posted February 28, 2006 Just a little rantI brought some darts off of Ebay last week, i paid for them the same day that i won them via bank transfer, and i received the darts 3 days later.On opening the darts the first thing that i saw is that they were Brass and not steel as quoted in the product discription. If i had known that they were brass i would not have bought them, Ok i am keeping them as i can't be bothered to send them back.I gave him a nutral point and explained to him that the discription was wrong.So what did he do in return? gave me a negative point.What an idiot, how childish can you get.Tony Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I have had two complaints with purchases and have found eBay to be very protective of their sellers. The first one was a Colchester Triumph Lathe I bought last summer, supposedly with a three jaw chuck and a four jaw chuck. It came with only the three jaw. The seller played me on for a couple of months with promises, and I, like a fool, believed him. When I took it up with eBay I "should have taken it up earlier" and had I "discussed it with the seller". They have now got a Fair Deal or a Square Trade or some such thing going. That is no better. I bought a new cashmere sweater for my wife. It was advertised as "Size 14" in the main heading. It was the right sort of thing and the right colour, so I bought it. Further down in the advert it said that the jumper was labelled XXL. I thought what I was supposed to think, that it had had a wrong label attached. Of course when it came it was well, well above a size 14. A neighbour saw it and wanted it so it did not go back, but a con had bee wrought. So I left a negative feed back. I then got a tirade of abuse from the seller, and eBay/SquareTrade/FairDeal threatening to remove my negative feed back for the seller if I did not sort it out with the seller, who by this time had left me a negative. I do not know what they did. I just washed my hands of them. Found one for sale from a Seller who lived locally, which is what I was looking for as I won't pay postage costs. The auction ended last Monday and I picked up the item last Tuesday, after inspecting it of course..all was fine :) Nice chap as well.That's all I know about Ebay...never used it before. Personally I give it a wide berth and always will. It's just not worth the risk or the potential hassle. I would rather pay more and have the protection of consumer law. Tony Posted March 1, 2006 Author Report Share Posted March 1, 2006 I agree with what you say andsomeI have used Ebay for a few years now, and this is the first time i have had a problem (if that's what we can call it) i think the problem in his product discription was due to him not understanding the English on the packaging of the darts.The packaging does have the word Steel on it, but it says Steel Tip's (which they always are on a normal dart. and in big gold letters it says BRASS Barrals. i don't think he understood what that meant.I am waiting a reply from him to an email i sent him this morning.Tony Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
r4may Posted March 1, 2006 Report Share Posted March 1, 2006 Had some good buys on ebay but their complaints procedures have never been much good, is appears be mainly 'buyer beware' as bad sellers can always re-register under another nom-de-plume anyway.You pays your money and takes your chances that the seller is somewhat honest.They have been known to admit to mistakes. so you may be lucky Tony. I've received letters in the mail telling me i've won money in a drawing (ranges from 1-6 billion US dollars) but i have to send them like $50 or $100 to get it, but i'm not that stupid. When there's no name or address (when it tells you to send it to a P.O box, you suspect somethings up.) I've never bought anything from another country through the internet, not that i won't, but that i've never had too.
