Thos Posted March 7, 2006 Report Share Posted March 7, 2006 Hello, again.I have been off-forum for a week and I know you have all been missing me terribly. :P My big sister came down and I have been entertaining her. She arrived last Monday and as she is getting on a bit and finds it difficult to get across London, I met her off the train at Euston and piloted her via the London Underground through Charing Cross to our house in Kent. We had a merry time with G & T's catching up with news, then dinner of steak pie etc. fruit strudel, cheese & bics, plenty of red wine, liqueurs for her, brandy for me and then the sleep of the just.Next day was shopping day. I took her to Bluewater Shopping Centre where she had a great time browsing and not buying. My wife also took the opportunity to scan the racks looking for an outfit to wear for our eldest granddaughter's wedding at the end of April. From the we went across the river to Thurrock where there is a Costco warehouse. We didn't buy a lot but as most things are big ticket items it cost quite a lot.Sis wanted to see a show so next day we went into London and got tickets for The Producers. I had seen it before and thought it riotously funny, unlike the film. We had lunch at an Italian restaurant in Soho and G & T's at Weatherspoons in Trafalgar Square before going to the matinee. I saw jokes and appreciated material which had passed me by on the previous occasion and my sister also thought it hilarious.We had a day in France on Thursday. It is an easy drive for us to the Channel Tunnel terminal so we were in Calais shortly after 9 am French time. Had a great day there stocking up on wine and spirits and bread, tomatoes and cheese for an evening snack later. Good, satisfying longish lunch and a mid-afternoon train ride through the Tunnel and back home.Friday was going home day, so for me it meant taking her back to Euston and putting her on the Virgin train back to Cheshire.Must have picked up a bug because I have been under the weather over the weekend but I am OK now and looked at "new posts" today. I don't intend to contribute to them all but I thought the funniest was the story about the Quantas pilots and mechanics. That really made me laugh . Thanks for that. I also found interesting a post which was quite serious until it developed into a story about Catgate's grandma mispronouncing acetate :lol: I really must try to keep up, it is amazing how much stuff is posted and a few days not reading takes some catching up.Thos :flowers: Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

It was probably that French plonk, you can't beat Chilean wine these days.There are indeed a few very good Chileans around. But still, there is nothing better in the world than a good Italian wine. These days I especially enjoy Sardinian and Sicilian wines - both red and white.I agree with both of you. I still enjoy French wine, paying a bit more over there where the extra value goes into the wine. Buying in the UK, I usually opt for Italian or a big rough South American red.I'm afraid that I don't go for Californian wines or indeed Australian or South African much.Thos.
