The basic concept of an aqueduct has indeed been around for hundreds of years and is a fairly simple design as the load is static.....a constant.

The water bridge in German is truly amazing due to a couple of things:

1. The bridge allows for pedestrian traffic on either side, with an ever changing weight load depending on the volume of traffic on either side.

2. As the water carries boats their is the possibility of wakes from those boats changing the forces in play on the structure.

Add to that the sheer weight it carries due to the volume of water it holds.

Look into the design of this bridge a bit more if you want to really appreciate what went into building it.

It should be alright then cos andsomes link has been carrying boats and pedestrians since 1804 ;)

"It is the largest aqueduct in Britain and used by more than 10,000 boats and over 25,000 pedestrians every year."

Touché! I did not see that, sorry.

I'll let you off this time. :D
