I just said that I hope they don't mess about with the Ewido anti Malware program. Symantec have messed about with programs from companies that they have taken over. The result is a mish mash of previously good software (that was bought in) combined with their own (not so good) software resulting in a product no better than was started with but with larger sales because the competition has been removed. The main difference being that Gates did have the germ of a reasonable product product - Symantec didn't before resorting to this mass buy out of the competition to cream off the best bits. Click on the link on the right-bottom (Register now...) on http://www.ewido.net/, then go through the registration process with Grisoft. You will then be given a link to download the beta.There have been no big issues reported so far, but one uncertainty remains: if the previous version 3.5 should be uninstalled first. It does not uninstall automatically, but it can no longer be uninstalled after the 4.0 beta is installed.Some people in the beta forum advised to keep 3.5, as it gives proven protection while the 4.0 beta is tested. So far no-one has reported any problems with running both 3.5 and 4.0 beta.P.S. You didn't make a backup? Shame on you.Golden rules: Before installing any hardware or software on your computer, make a full system backup. When I reported this as a bug in the ewido forum, Peter Ewido replied that there should definitely an Uninstall.exe be in that folder.Maybe I really have to restore the backup just to have a look in my folder...?[edit] Just checked the restore tool, and without doing an actual restore, there is no Uninstaller.exe in there. -pops- Posted April 27, 2006 Report Share Posted April 27, 2006 Update: I've just checked on another machine and, yes, I have found an uninstall facility in C:\Program Files\ewido\security suite.I've just updated Ewido in this machine by removing the old copy and re-installing a new one (same version number). I would swear that this was not there before, as I wanted to uninstall due to a minor problem. Could this be because Grisoft have added to the program after the takeover?
