Anyway, my dad is getting a sony laptop and will be using it for a few standard internet bits. The free ones are as good as any. I use AVG, others may suggest differently.Remember also to install other anti-malware programs as well. Have a look around for suggestions. You won't find many people here who'd recommend Symantec products.I never had much bother with Norton System Works as such. The problem came when I went on line to renew my subscription. I could pay for downloads and updates, but no longer qualified for support. This was for a program that was two years old. I uninstalled it and sent them an e mail. They didn't bother to reply. The big problem was uninstalling it, it took a great deal of trouble, and even involved tinkering with the registry. AVOID it like the plague. If you are going to be looking at fully licienced software then I would seriously consider either Nod32 or kaspersky Antivirus, both are excellent in their job of keeping viruses at bay.
