artist Posted May 15, 2006 Report Share Posted May 15, 2006 I've suddenly started having a problem. There's no error message as such. It just hangs. When I press the reset I get the boot in screen saying it will start in normal mode in x numbeer of seconds. It does - then hangs again. I press the restart button and it then starts ok. The wireless keyboard has also not been connecting on the first go, yet the mouse is fine.....Have uninstalled and reinstalled. Could the two be related in some way? Have you tried pressing the button (if any) to re-align the system?Yes I have. It tells me the keyboard is connected. Trouble is - 2 out of three times it doesn't connect when I start up. I'm wondering if it's gained a fault seeing as the mouse is ok. It wasn't hugely expensive - it's a Belkin - must have had it about two years. No problems until the last couple of weeks. Where would I find that option?Underneath both my mouse and keyboard is a small switch marked 1 & 2. If yours has something similar try switching. I know that on some set ups where switching is possible, you must have the mouse and keyboards on a different number. On mine this is NOT important, and they are both on channel 2. artist Posted May 19, 2006 Author Report Share Posted May 19, 2006 Tried again after a few hours - got a message saying I had changed the 'System Configuration Utility'.Changed that to 'normal' as directed - hopefully this has fixed it.I have no idea how I could have changed the setting? Also when did this happen, after installing hardware,software or out of nowhere?I'm on the laptop again!!Couldn't get the pc to boot up again, in spite of the change yesterday.There's 3 beeps then the red light goes out. Problem came from nowhere. I don't know if the keyboard works today. I have had two mice on at the same time but not tried keyboards.Edit: If it's ram then try taking it out and putting it back in as it might just be be not seated properly. After the file is downloaded an extract must be done to uncompress the file(s). To extract right click on the downloaded file and select the "Extract All" option. The extract option will let you choose where the files will be extracted to. To build a bootable floppy go the the folder where the files were extracted and click on the Install icon. The floppy disk will appear to be unformatted by Windows after the install is complete. To build a boot-able CDROM use your CD burning software to create an image from the un-zipped ISO file. Since Memtest86 is a standalone program it does not require any operating system support for execution. It can be used with any PC regardless of what operating system, if any, is installed.
