Will your computer run Vista ?

You can check with some software issued by Microsoft

My computer is OK and I intend using Vista when it becomes available.

I bet most on the forum will declare an intention to wait awhile until the early adopters find the bugs and Microsoft fixes them - but it needs pioneers like me to be the sacraficial lambs - otherwise you would be waiting for ever.

Having had so many problems in the past with upgrading computers (mainly for other people) I will not be upgrading any of mine to Vista.

My son has ordered a Vista machine from me as and when feasible. That may, just, encourage me to convert but it will be a new build not an upgrade.

Exactly my sentiments. Most of the problems that I have heard about concerning XP, are after upgrading an older computer from W98.

The upgrade advisor, Beta version, is currently unavailable according to the link you gave, AlanHo. So I can't try it out.

Thos. :)

Is it wise to even consider upgrading in view of the problems that this may cause?

I have upgraded a few computers in my time with later operating systems

I have gone from Windows 3.1 to 95

Windows 98 to ME

Windows 98 to XP

Windows ME to XP

All without any great trauma - except for the brief flirtation with Windows ME which was a truly awful OS. However - I owe it a debt of gratitude because it forced me to learn more about computers and self control than any other software I have ever encountered - even Norton was well behaved in comparison.

As I said in the earlier post - I can understand people waiting for the dust to settle before moving to a new platform - but if everybody did that the new system would never get off the ground. It needs charitable, brave and selfless pioneers like myself to dive in and take the plunge.

It's like life in general - there are leaders and there are sheep.....I can almost hear the bleating coming my way :P ;)
