Re-boot after updates

I have used AVG Free for some time and up-date it most days. Hitherto it has up-dated without a re-boot but recently I have been told to re-start after up-dating. As I usually do the up-dates first thing when I go on-line, this is a nuisance to say the least. It doesn't happen with A-squared or Spybot.

Does everyone experience this? I suppose I shall have to alter my routine and do up-dates at the end of each day rather than the beginning.

I have AVG Free on two machines and paid-for on one. I have them all set for auto update and it is very rare that a re-boot is needed. I think it's a case of program updates may sometimes need a re-boot but virus database ones don't (normally).

There may be something wrong with your setup.

Just been looking if there's a repair option but there doesn't seem to be one.

I have mine set to look for updates automatically and it seems to find an update two or three times a week. It does sometimes does require a reboot but it is very rare. I suspect that the reboot is actually the installation of a "new" prog. rather than just an update of new identities. I think my last reboot was about ten days ago, and the one before that was several months ago.

i had this recently happen to me.

i found that the update was actually failing to install.

so i did a reinstall of avg and that solved the problem.

Thanks for that suggestion. I have uninstalled AVG and re-installed it. The first up-date did not require a re-boot, so maybe that has done the trick. The next few up-dates will show.
