gordythegouge Posted July 7, 2006 Report Share Posted July 7, 2006 I've just watched Hampton Court Flower Show on the good old BEEB and basically it makes you sick!! Absolutely gorgeous, instant gardening, we can all do it.........you think? Well if I had a bottomless pocket full of money to throw at the garden, the one I've got wouldn't have taken the 14 years it has to get to the stage it's at now...........my pride and joy.......until you see what these clever sods do in a couple of weeks!!! Sheeesh! I unfortunately offered to do the garden in my eldest daughters' new home as a wedding present for her. Not easy... she lives 3 hrs further south from here and the first few days of my April holiday were spent up to my knees in pure clay!! Honestly......I could have started a pottery! Spent £350 on plants for a border and I'm up here, fingers crossed, hoping that they'll look after things till I get down to hard landscape the garden in a couple of weeks! But the point is..........because it's a wedding present and because I'm getting loads of advice from she who must be obeyed (Good and Bad) then money's no object!!!! Sob!! I'm ruined......and there's the wedding yet!!! God...please let them not have watched Hampton Court tonight!! B****y BBC.........should be a law against it!!! I was saying exactly the same thing about 'if money was no object' when Monty put in 3 very expensive palms!!He did say - as an afterthought - that it wasn't a cheap option........I'll say! We all know it takes time and effort to get an established garden and anyone can throw a garden together when money is no object. Some of the garden designs cost thousands of pounds. It's becoming a professionals' paradise where anyone can take part as long as they're well-off Bring back those like Geoff Hamilton with knowledge and a practical approach.
