gordythegouge
I'm at my daughters' new house in Cambuslang....I've spent yesterday cutting the turf from her back garden.....with pick, shovel etc.,.....so that I can start setting the levels for her new patio area...I've got 3 tons of sand and 15 bags of cement to move to the required position......I was on my own working in 90 degrees yesterday.....today......I have the assistance of soon to be son-in-law and my own darling boy.....I turned round.....and the place has turned into the Marie Celeste!!!!!! I've got a 100 450*450 slabs to lay along with an edging that comes in three sizes....and it will have to be perfect! (It's for my daughter) Sob!!! Where have the sodding sods all sodding sodded off to???? Sob!So....anyone passing....do look in..I'm the broken shadow of a man curled up on top of a pile of builders sand sucking his thumb! See when they get back.........!

gordythegouge
The words were..."Do you think they might want me to do their garden as a wedding present?"Never to be repeated within earshot of daughter no.2, who is getting married next year!!You must have said SOMETHING to upset them all!!!(must be mad doing that kind of work in all this heat anyway.) They're 200 miles away.....I've had to take holidays to do it...sob!I thought with age came wisdom, I think it missed a generation in your case. For what it's worth matey....this generation grew up with Hendrix, Cream,Stones etc,....we never got into them listening to Grandad's record collection.........and we were taught to look after our kids......and if that means having a hernia and a stroke from the sun whilst doing it.....so be it!!! :P And that goes for you too andsome.......never thought I'd see the pair of you in the same corner!!! :P :P
andsome
In all honesty, I don't know what the matter is with many of todays young men. My daughter does most of the gardening, painting and decorating in their house. Her husband can't even put a screw in the wall. He reckons that it's his job to look after the two year old and play with her, keeping her occupied over the weekend, so there is no time to do the essential jobs. He doesn't seem to understand that my daughter manages all these things in the week while he is at work, and the little one amuses herself. She also manages to teach several yoga classes during the week. Her father in law always does several jobs when he occasionally visits. We visit every week, but have made it quite clear that I am doing nothing there, it isn't my job thanks. A shrub near to the front door had reached the stage where it almost blocked entry, guess who cut it back in the end, YES she did.

She refuses on the grounds that she alone sees to everything in the house - DIY, gardening, cooking, laundry etc. My hubby helps with the big jobs like fitting kitchens or laying patios - even then son in law vanishes if he can..........Not a situation that would have worked for me but they seem happy enough, which is the main thing. gordythegouge
Well that's the patio finished.....guess what? There's 20 or so slabs plus the original heavy duty concrete slabs left and........they're deciding what Dad could use them for as other projects...I mean...he's obviously going to be bored doing nothing....reading a book...in the sunshine....on his holiday! ???? :(

When he wakes up he will grab it and throw it out of the window, hopefully.Thos.
