A friend of mine recently became engaged in a hacker war, by means unknown. He got an email from his opponent, but foolishly forgot to check for viruses. His computer was messed up. badly. When he tries to run ANY program in windows, he just gets the message "this computer has been temporarily suspended". He can't run any programs, so his computer is basically useless. Does anyone know what could have happened to his OS, and how to fix it?

I think he's running windows xp.

I don't understand what the hell a Hacker War is, and how anyone gets involved willingly. I also agree about Anti virus and Anti malware programs. It sounds as though he got exactly what he was asking for.

I can believe people:- Use the internet without suitable updated AV. Open unexpected e-mail attachments. Send their details to that nice man from Nigeria who wants to give them loadsa money and fill their account details in the forms when a bank they don't have an account with has a sudden catastrophic system crash. But then again I'm a cynical old git and I've been around long enough that very little people do surprises me. So I just remember the balls ups I made as a newbie, try to point them in the right direction and hope they recover from this latest slip off the learning curve.
