I cant cut and paste tried everything suggested.

My edit on IE 6 has it disabled as well as copy.

XP Home Edition circa 2003 with SP1 SP2 now added plus all official updates.

Why is this function disabled?

Is there a way of undoing it :(

I tried that IE Repair but unfortunately it says you need to have the CD ROM for IE 6 to use their methods.

I do not have any of these nor were any in the pack/box when I unpacked the computer new from shop.

I have this funny little pack which says recovery - with a lot of foreign language writing on it. Just have to hope I dont crash so when I got BOD was a bit nervous but MAXMEM which someone here recommended fixed it as I only have 256 RAM and must have overloaded it with scan+email+downloads :0

Only CD Rom I got with it was Britannica.

Actually got ripped off as when I bought the pack it was supposed to have money, and several other programs included along with keyboard, LCD Monitor and tower, salesman assured me all were in the carton but being naive didnt unpack it in the shop and guess what - not there - went back next day and whoops - the sign and that particular package no longer on

sale and never was. HA :censored::angry:

Guess which shop is never getting my custom again.

This was disabled from the very first time I booted up.

Is it only an IE problem?

Why don't use just use Firefox instead?

This is NOT a solution to the present problem. If someone wants to try a different browser then that is their choice. Ar present there is a problem either software or hardware on their computer which needs attending to. A change of browser can always foloow should the user wish, at a later date.

When I just click on the Edit link in my browser... everything is greyed out. However, if I highlight a block of text and then click Edit then the copy option is available to me... sorry if this is a daft question but I'm assuming that, for example, the copy option isn't available even though you have highlighted some text?

You could well be right, how does it know what to copy without hilighting it ?

Although on Opera mine are not greyed out, I assumed lambchop had hilighted the text

I see nothing wrong with the statement. A question was asked about a potential IE problem. If Firefox or indeed any other browser is used in place of IE in this instance, the problem still exists on the computer, and obviously needs fixing if possible. If you had a problem with Firefox, or whatever your choice of browser is, would you ditch it or try to find out what was wrong?

No , It was a possible solution , thats what i meant by that...Whats wrong with trying something differant...?? something that may possibly work better.. But thats an "IF"

You have not grasped the point I am trying to make, and that is that there is possibly a problem on the computer that needs addressing. Whether or not to use any of several browsers is a different question. If your car breaks down you don't do away with it and get another one, unless you have more money than sense. You try to repair it. The question was about a possible IE problem, not a choice of browsers.

Lamb Chop. Before trying to cut and paste, have you actually highlighted something first? It may seem a daft question, but if I click onto edit, the options are greyed out, unless I have first dragged across some text to highlight it in blue.

I see that this question has been asked in other replies, but has NOT as yet been answered.

If you mean when you select text on a site (not a form) and go to edit or right click, the cut-n-paste options are gone I think thats normal. You can't cut something from a web site because if you could it would disappear. Thats why only copy works. Its like this in browsers I have seen. Now if its in a form then of course you can cut what you typed out. Is this what you mean? Can you cut and paste files or text in Windows?

Sorry just caught up - no email

No I didnt know I had to highlight :sorry:

When I did - the copy was visable but then what do I do?

I have highlighted say a url which I want to cut and paste onto another window?

Where do I put it? I'll try Edit again - wow

perfect computer has been developed. You just feed in your problems and they never come out again.

Arh - I see - I had highlighted a bit on one post and here it has suddenly appeared!

so that is how I do it!

Wow guys I really appreciate the help and sorry for being so dumb

Also I use IE as I like it - dont like Firefox at all - it is very trendy with its tags but I cant get its text readable for my eyesight whereas IE is very good in that respect it stays on its settings.

Thanks for asking the dumb question as it is not obvious to you all as you are switched on
