Photoshop woes

I have a copy of Photoshop Elements and CS2. A little while ago I was clearing out some unused things in my Add/Remove Programs list.

Since then, I have been getting errors while using both of these programs. When I start up either program, I get an erros saying that it can not find "AboutDlgProc," followed by "Could not load FastCore routines module because there is not enough memory (RAM)", then another error stating the same "procedure entry point AboutDlgProc could not be located in the dynamic library PLUGIN.dll," followed by yet another error saying the MMXCore routines could not be loaded due to insufficient memory.

And the finally, it says "The procedure entry point InitializePIExpressDialogs could not be located in the dynamic library PLUGIN.dll," once again followed by the error "Could not load the Multiprocessor Support module because there is not enough RAM."

It then loads the rest of the program, I can do photo editting and all that fun stuff, except that I am unable to open .GIF and .PNG images. Also, I am unable to use certain effects such as Filters->Render->Clouds.

I have downloaded several versions of plugin.dll (including a friend sending me his version) and put it in both the C:\WINDOWS\System32 folder as well as in the Photoshop directory. If anyone knows what the cause of this is, and how to fix it, please inform me. :)

Can you use system Restore to a time before you did this clear out?

Do you have a backup you can restore from?

Have you tried a repair or re-install of the program(s)?

Have you tried a repair of Windows?

I would just re-install? One of the things you removed probably also took other dependencies with it that were shared with Photoshop (you were probably warned) If there is some reason you can't re-install, you could think back to what you removed (was it a lot of things?) I suppose you could install them again. :P You would really have to know exactly what Photoshop is missing. If i were you, I'd remove it and then install it again.

Pop in the disk, and do a repair install. If that doesn't work, use "Windows Install Cleanup", remove all references to Photoshop, and reinstall fully.

use GIMP > its free, its easy to use and most important: it is better than PS!!! [it includes PS and more!!!!]

I have tried reinstalling. I will try what you suggested, bunb.

Coreper, I happen to have GIMP. I love open source software and I think it's a wonderful program...

However, I just don't think it's up to par with Photoshop. CS2 has far, far more features out of the box and has, in my opinion, a much better interface. It's great for being open source and free, but do you honestly know any professional graphics designers who use GIMP over Photoshop?

Photo Shop is widely accepted because it is mass-marketed. Gimp is not. This has nothing to do with it's capabilities.

As for your problem, I would recommend a re-install.

if i were you i would just kick up the amount of pagefile availible. some times stupid things like uninstalling applications makes the system do things like limit down the amount of page file.

start > control panel > system > advanced > (under performance) settings > advanced > (under virtual memory) change > check custom settings.

then enter

then press set, a reboot is normally required. MAKE SURE YOU Wright DOWN YOUR DEFAUL SETTINGS FOR YOU CAN REVERT IF THESE SETTINGS DONT WORK FOR YOU!!!

then tell us how it works.
