I know that there are some music lovers on the forum. Tune in to BBC4 TV at 7-30pm tonight. The finest symphony ever composed, by the worlds greatest composer is being broadcast.

Symphony Number 2, The Resurrection, by Gustav Mahler.

BBC Symphony Orchestra. BBC Symphony Chorus, and the London Symphony Chorus, all conducted by Bernard Haitink.

Sounds like a nice concert to listen to/watch. Enjoy!

It was a first class performance. I still prefer Gilbert Kaplan the amateur musicians performances though. I saw him conduct this symphony in Symphony Hall.

The reason that the conductor is there is simple. This is very complex music, unlike the strumming of guitars and jumping up and down shouting. Each conductor brings his/her own interpretation to the work. Many hours of rehearsal are necessary as the conductor instills his idea of the ideal performance into the musicians. On the occasion of the live performance, the conductor finally takes the orchestra through the performance, maintaining correct timings and can also make other adjustments as he goes along. It would be extremely difficult and probably impossible for a large orchestra to stay together properly, unlike three or four guitar strummers, who you wouldn't know were staying in time or not. Pop music has an incessant thump thump beat. The timing during a symphony can change bar by bar, sometime three beats to the bar, then a passage with four beats and so on, the length of time between beats can also differ.

I like music that comes from the soul, no matter what it is played on, and that hardly happens when you have to wait till some geezer points to you ;) ;)

If they didn't wait for that geezer, Heaven alone knows what the end result would be. Last night there were over 120 musicians and several hundred choristers on stage.

Not my cup of tea but these guys have lasted hundreds of years like will people remember destinys child in 100 years?

WHO ??????????????????????

I have been wondering the same thing. If you'd mentioned Led Zeppelin, they will be remembered forever...

I'm a music lover, and it doesn't interest me.

Anybody who does not love Mahler's Symphony No. 2 cannot seriously be considered human!

P.S. but teasing 'andsome is of course another matter... :D

The term used was Destiny's child, now you are talking in the plural. I don't look at children's boobies in any case.
