Automatic Updates from Microsoft

I seem to have struck a problem with auto updates.

Last month and again today, booted up - updates download - I then install - then get the msg - restart now - click onto it and it restarts.

Fine except for the fact, after restart, that the yellow shield is still there and now it says again ready to install.

So install again. Busy Busy doing something. NOthing then happens.

then up pops the yellow shield again - ang msg ready to install updates.

Now as I typed this the shield has disappeared.

Is this a general problem is peculiar to my computer? B)

I have checked my programs and I actually have 4 new updates installed on there today - 2 for windows and 2 security.

Why not try a manual install of the updates and ignore the yellow shield - I always do? Hopefully that should be definitive in getting you up to date.

Go to Start -> Help & Support and click the appropriate box under Pick a Task. Follow the instructions and it will scan your machine and tell you which updates are needed. You just take it from there.

I too am having a similar problem.

I have switched off the auto updates - although it was only on the 'notify me' option.

My problem is that the 'searching' just goes on and on. When I try to close the site everything freezes. I can't open any other page anywhere.

I looked at the troubleshoot section and 'disable popup blocker' was mentioned. Did that - still the same.

The only thing that has changed in the last couple of days is the google toolbar update.

I'm trying to avoid a system restore as the last one was a week ago.

Any ideas?

My AutoUpdate is also misbehaving lately. It notifies me that updates are available, then minimizes to download the updates. And I never see it again...

So at the end I always end up doing manual updates. Not a big deal, but it's not how it is supposed to work.

P.S. actually the Windows Defender definitions updates always work. It's just the monthly security updates that don't. One of these strange things...

Well I have left mine on as last time it was notifing me over and over again to restart for effect etc - or prior to click to download which I did a couple of times as reported.

then next time I booted had dl another program which required restart and noticed that the little window with the 3 options had a message underneath re updates - said something like turn off and next time you boot updates will be ok.

Never had a problem since so will wait for next month and see if that happens again.

Maybe it is giving 2 lots of messages or some such.

Once it stopped nagging I was happy :D
