Boris
Already tried that - see post about speakers. What's the absolute minimum that I need to have connected to test PSU.It should give 14A @ 12v - which should be quite enough for Athlon 2000, 512MB PC2700 DDR, DVD drive, FDD, 80 Gig H/D, 64MB Geforce4 ?I'm using the old beast - 2 H/D SMART warnings showing - so if I just disappear ...... you'll know why ! mark2
I think you should see a post screen with mobo, graphics and memory, should be enough to get a display or beeps.after that add one item at a time till it cries 'enough'
Guest Nellie2
All you need is your memory, graphics card and processor.......... is that what you mean by minimum?{Ooops........snap Mark2!!}

mark2
How many wires to the switch ?, if it is a simple switch you could check for continuity using a small bulb and battery tester, whilst it is unplugged .
Boris
Front panel power switch ? = 2One white, one black No soldering iron ! Tony
Hi BorisThings i would do (mostly been covered already)1- Disconnect all cables from the mobo except the main power connector (every thing!) and possibly take the mobo out of the case, and test it, just in case it is shorting out on the case somewhere.2- Disconnect every thing else Hdd, CD Rome drives, PCI cards, Floppy and also any extra USB ports. So now you just have the mobo, CPU+Fan, Memory & Graphics card.2- Now connect the Power Switch Cables across pins 6-8. if this still shows no results, take off the power switch cable and short out the two pins 6-8 with a screw driver (ONLY DO THIS IF YOU FEEL CONFIDENT ENOUGH TO DO IT) if not then use one of the jumpers off a Hdd or some thing. If it still does not work, at least now you have ruled out the case switch from being faulty. If the mobo has powered up by now, Just by connecting the power switch cable, turn it off and add the rest of the front panel cables but Not any USB cable just yet. With the front panel cables the only ones that need to be put the correct way round are the cables for the LEDs on the case, normally just two Power & Hdd.If it is working OK with all the front panel cables connected, now turn off and connect the USB cables. Now i don't know the case, so maybe the USB wires have one multi plug at the end of it, if this is the case then it should be fine. Or it may have 4 separate plugs if this is the case then make 100% sure that these get connected to the correct pins, if just one of these is in the wrong place then it can show the symptoms you have.3- If none off the above works then plug your old PSU in to the mobo, i know it is underpowered but with just the bare minimum on the mobo it should still be man enough to power it up.4- If that works then as far as i can see you will need a new PSU.If using your old PSU does not start it up, then there are two possible things that could be faulty, CPU or Mobo. That is where it gets hard, if you don't have spares of these (who would in the house) maybe you could borrow a CPU off a friend ? just to rule it out.Anyway here is the front panel connection diagram i found for your mobo rev 1.1All the bestTony

Boris
Good news - it is not the PSU !Brought it in to work and tested it in my work PC - works fine :D BUT I didn't know they had intrusion detection enabled on the work PC cases :o - so I may have to explain to the IT powers that be tomorrow how/why I "accidentally" opened the case ! Boris
possibly take the mobo out of the case, and test itTony - Not quite sure how to test it (if out of the case) ?
Guest ellas
boris has it got a power led light on the mobo(mine has a green one) to show its on,how did you attach it to the case was it brass spacers or like mine plastic,it sounds like the mobo somewhere is touching the case.
