Guest LB
Before I start I would like to make my opinion clear.......I am NOT a homophobe, whatever people wish to do is entirely up to them and i wish them every luck in the world with whatever it is that they want to do.Right, that out of the way, I have been living with my girlfriend for 10 years, we have been together for 12, have had a joint bank account for 9 years and have a son who is seven years old. We are not married and that is purely for financial reasons (ie the phone bill and the rent takes priority over the registry office)If we were to split up tomorrow, I would have no say over the upbringing of my son. If I were to die (please god, no!) my girlfriend would get nothing** and my parents (who I haven't spoken to in years) would get my pension, my share options and just about everything else.Watching the news, i find that homsexual couples are to be granted the same rights as married couples and my thinking is WHY?If as a confirmed?? couple myself and my girlfriend have no rights as a married couple, why oh why should we make an exception for homosexual couples, in fact, why not grant the right to dogs that have been together for years. It makes me sick that once again, some namby pamby do gooders have got their way in the name of political correctness...........Anyone care to comment?????**I have made a will to rectify this situation....
Bluecow
You're comments are very true and myself in a similar situation 8 years seeing my girlfriend a son and daughter from the relationship. To solve one of your problems i.e. death - make a will this will ensure that your monies etc go where you want them to go.If you split up then it would be very sticky ground you would pay the earth but would have to settle for what your ex chose be it right or wrong in your view. to make matters worse she could move hundreds of miles away from you.People are so pro minorities what ever they are that they tend to forget about the majority ( 40% of children are now born outside of marriage)
Sir Radfordin
Is it not just another example of positive discrimination? As for your other points, some opinions are best not shared
andsome
I too believe that what people do is up to them. I just cannot approve of these new moves however. I also think that it is entirely wrong to place children in homosexual homes. Whatever any ones views about RIGHTS, it surely must be the right of any child who is in the unfortunate position of needing adoption, to be given every chance of an upbringing in as near to normal circumstances as possible. Whatever our views on personal liberties, homosexuality is NOT the norm, otherwise we would not exist as a species. The rights of children MUST be paramount. It is pointless to talk about the rights of homosexuals to be parents, no one has a right to OWN a child just because they want to, children should be produced naturally, and if unfortunate circumstances arise, they should then be put into a position where they will have every chance of complete normality. mark2
Whatever the rights /wrongs or our feelings on the subject, I found this Now same-sex couples will be able to sign a register at a register office at The Guardian suggests they will have to do the same as couples marrying to get the same rights as married couples. Maybe not as simple as it first appears. They will also take on responsibilities, and one partner may face paying alimony to the other in the event of the legal partnership being dissolved. Guest moon
Heterosexual couples are already planning to take the UK to the EU Court of Human Rights on a discrimination basis. It's very likely that they will win as the new rulings for gays really are discriminatory.

Gay means Happy and cheerful, why do homosexuals and lesbians appear to be shy of using these words instead of misusing 'GAY'?
Tankus
Why not completely disassociate the law from our religion .A legal contract If any couple feel that they want to make a commitment , that will allow the other partner some form of protection in law ,in the event of illness or death ,when insurance companies or the state will weasel or want a slice... Should there not be equality regardless ?Lived Backwards has a will , I made one out in my early twenties and have made a few minor adjustments as my circumstances have changed.....Well worth doing to reduce the amount of unhappiness left behind , should the scythe be banging on your door earlier that expected. Guest LB
Sir Radfordin @ Monday 30th June 2003, 22:53 As for your other points, some opinions are best not sharedFree speech is a right in this country and one of which we should be proud. In some countries ALL opinions are best not shared, and opinions are what fuels debate. Lets debate where we have the chance. We all have an opinion all are all entitled to voice it.Andsome, I too WAS of the same opinion as you regarding same-sex couples adopting however, there are people that are classed as parents that abuse, both physically and mentally, their children, now no one can tell me that an abused child would not be better off with two loving caring parents, be they two men, women or whatever......This change of opinion came after a long healthy and good natured debate at work!!!One other thing andsome, who are we, or in fact, who is anyone to say what is "normal"???? andsome
[One other thing andsome, who are we, or in fact, who is anyone to say what is "normal"???? ]Every normal person is shocked by child abuse, but I would still prefer to see such abused children put into a loving normal family. Regarding the question of what is normal, and who is to decide the answer, this is the question that is usually asked by those who are not normal. We could say that it is normal to kill someone with whom we disagree. We could say that it is normal to take something from someone who has more than we do. We could say it is normal to scratch someones new car because we cannot afford to buy one. In fact to follow your argument to it's logical conclusion there would be nothing that was abnormal, everything which we wanted to indulge in could be considered normal. I will never see anything normal in people having sexual relations with the same sex as themselves, any more than I would consider bestiality to be normal. Although maybe a lonely sheep farmer would disagree. I still agree that what goes on behind closed doors between consenting adults is of course their concern, and no one else's. Tankus
arf arf , .............. bestiality and homosexuality in the same paragraph ................lets not mince any words here ......eh..?..andsome....
Guest LB
i think you are getting common decency and normality mixed up andsome....common sense dictates decency, and the majority dictates normality..i.e eating dog in this country is not considered normal but in Thailand.......beastiality is not decent nor normal.Changing tack slightly, what could be more normal than two parents who love and cherish their child, wether they are two male foster parents or the parents of a naturally conceived child? andsome
arf arf , ..............   bestiality and homosexuality in the same paragraph ................lets not mince any words here ......eh..?..andsome....Very similar if you ask me. Regarding Live Backwards posting. Everyone is of course capable of love, but two males or two females cannot conceive children. Children deserve if possible to be brought up in as near to normal families as possible. Unfortunately this was not possible in the case of my sister and myself. My father died when I was 2 1/2, and two weeks before my sister was actually born. We suffered enough with this situation, you cannot believe how cruel other children can be. I would not wish it upon a child to be taunted about their parents inclinations.
