Hi all,

When I switch on the computer the monitor has a 3cm wide Black band down each side which slowly disappear after about ten minutes, then the display is OK, the monitors 3yr. guarantee runs out next month. Is the problem with the monitor or could it be the graphics card? This has only started recently.

To add to my story - they exchanged it under warranty and the second (reconditioned) monitor developed a similar fault - but this time it "flicked" wide and narrow continuously after about an hours use.

The next warranty exchange went OK for a few weeks - but then became distorted across the width of the screen - the third exchange was OK - but this one failed about 6 months out of warranty. So I bought a LCD replacement.

Hope you have a better experience.

I'm not expecting to take a reconditioned monitor, but we'll see.

It sounds like the horizontal output is going, or the caps associated with it; it is what controls the size of the screen side to side. Generally with this condition it will continue to degrade until you are left with only a single vertical line. It could be anything from weak solder connections to bad filter caps. I would definitely recommend sending it in for repair unless you are comfortable with monitor/tv repairs.

Hi zizzer, thanks for your help.

As it is still under guarantee I will expect the shop to replace it, there is no way I could attempt a repair myself, although Hyundai may insist on a repair. I'm taking it in tomorrow or Tuesday and I will post back with the results.

Update:

I phoned Hyundai 11am today and they phoned back at 3pm to say they are sending a replacement this Friday.

Considering I have had it 2yrs and eleven months this is pretty good service .

Excellent service ;)

Bear in mind of course that it will be a refurbished model.

Well, all is not as it should be, yesterday the monitor was working fine, today, as I hope the attached screen shot will show, the colour is all to pot. It shows Green down the left hand side and purple down the right. I have not altered any settings since I got the replacement so any ideas what might be causing the colour imbalance?

No still the same,F11 opened a new tab, switched between them and couldn't see any difference.

A screen capture of what I see, as its smaller it should be in the middle fo your screen I hope

When I click on it , it does open in the middle of the screen but then when I click on it with F11 it goes full screen and I can see the problem colours.

I just copped it into a photo editor and still cant see the problem. Not being an expert on this, but as your screen shot is allright away from your monitor I would think you have another bad monitor. The only other thing is are there any magnets (speakers) at the sides of your monitor that could be affecting it. I know this used to be a problem.

I do have speakers at the side of the monitor but they have always been there, I'll try moving them .

Just to make it very clear, when I click on the desktop image it opens in a new window, if I then click on F11 in that window I can see the problem with the colours.
