Craig Posted November 25, 2006 Report Share Posted November 25, 2006 Chris, as I do not know much about this type of software, can you please explain to me in simple terms what the advantage is over Acronis which I have and use to back up to an external drive regularly?.While Chris is at work I shall supply an initial response and if necessary, get Chris to expand on it and correct me.I have been testing Setup Studio, and also use Acronis, and I see my usage like this:Setup Studio = To setup a brand new PCAcronis = To take an image of my working PC to restore if it failsI have several computers in my home, and once in a while I like to start again and do a complete format and reinstall, using Setup Studio, I will now be able to pop my CD/DVD in the drive and let it install Windows and all my device drivers and updates without having to be sat in front of the computer for an hour or two. In fact I might even see if I can get Setup Studio to install Acronis True Image as part of the installation.I hope this clears up any misunderstanding. Setup Studio allows you to do things that you would afer you've installed XP. For example you install 5 of your favourite applications, install certain drivers etc. You setup all of this [and you can do loads more] in Setup Studio, you then create a disk. When you come to install XP, not only will XP install [obviously] but those applications, drivers etc will be installed. Setting up all of this will take sometime [depends how much you want to do], but once it's done that's it. You can also create multiple disks [with different PIDs]. You can also go back and update an application so the next time you install XP the application is the newer one.I suggest you trial it, you never know. You wil need an XP disk though. It cannot be done.What Setup Studio allows is for post XP installation installs. So when XP has installed it will fly through the applications you added [in setup studio] and install then. When you eventually come to use XP those apps will be there and already installed.How the application install depends on the install switchers, so what one switch does on one application may not apply to another application as either the switch does not exist or it does, but the switch is different for the other application.Add a single program | Add one program.Search a location for all available programs | An easier way to add multiple programs [ideally if they are in one place] as opposed to using the first option where you add them individually and one at a time]. When you use this option the programs must be supported natively.Does that make sense trackrat?Is that another restriction of the trial version?Nope, see above.
