I checked and found that he has a couple of dbx files that are very large, so I suggested that he cleans out his Sent Items and Inbox. Which he did.Later I found that his HD now had only 7% free space, compared with 13% before the cleaning. Reason: the Deleted Items box now also was over 1GB in size.Question: is there a way to compact these empty (or almost empty) files? Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

-pops- Posted December 17, 2006 Report Share Posted December 17, 2006 I don't know about the specific problem but I would be very worried about that small amount of disk space available.I work on the principle that a "C" drive is "full" when half of its available space is used up.Remember that Windows needs to use quite a lot of hard disk space in order to be able to function properly.If I were you I would strongly recommend installing another hard drive and transfer plenty of stored data over to that. Also uninstalled some unused applications (Outlook, Powerpoint) and unused drivers. Free space is now up to 25%. Since my friend thinks of getting a new system in the near future, I was not going to press him too hard on an external HD.Thanks again! You can also take help of the option in Tools> Options> Maintenance> "compact messages when there is % wasted space.
