cozofdeath
If your presently using Vista or IE 7 you may want to watch out for this. Microsoft is facing an early crisis of confidence in the quality of its Windows Vista operating system as computer security researchers and hackers have begun to find potentially serious flaws in the system that was released to corporate customers late last month.http://news.com.com/Flaws+detected+in+Vist...?tag=ne.fd.mnbc
jason.b.c
 Ha ha - ha ha ha ah ha ha ( laughing out of control ) aaaaahhhh ha ha ha ah ah ...  Despite an almost four-and-half-year campaign on the part of the company, and the best efforts of the computer security industry, the threat from harmful computer software continues to grow. andsome
I don't find it very funny at all. It's a great pity that so many otherwise intelligent people can think of nothing better to do, than try to wreck other peoples computers. Are you condoning this vandalism? Alan2273
Andsome I think Jason is laughing because he uses Linux the same as me, so does not have the problem of hackers (at the moment), I do not think he is condoning vandalism. -pops-
The more that Microsoft (or anyone else) states that their new software is stable against all attacks, the harder the creators of the attacking software will work to prove the statement wrong. dadyassa
Microsoft employ the hackers to make their products hack proof ;) So maybe its a way to an easy job ?
cozofdeath
The more that Microsoft (or anyone else) states that their new software is stable against all attacks, the harder the creators of the attacking software will work to prove the statement wrong.Very true.I wasn't surprised at all to see this, but I wanted to post it because its a critical flaw allowing anyone to be an admin, disabling all security basically. There isn't really anything thats totally secure. Anti-virus scanners can be bypassed by semi-advanced computer users taking maybe taking five minutes if that to custom pack a file or change the file signature. Its very scary because you can have the best viruse/malware scanner and you can't even detect a thing. If Microsoft only allows users to use their anti-malware products we are all in for trouble because malware writers only have to worry about getting around one signature in its database and one company to detect it. Its amazing how this stuff changes so much and how one little mistake in building a program can cause so many problems for people everywhere. Scarecrow Man
What if Microsoft released source code? It worked for Linux. Perhaps then, since it would not be a challenge, people would give up on breaking it.

rong
I find it to be amusing to, as Microsoft keep telling us how secure it will be.
andsome
Not amusing if you get affected. It is a sad fact that there are many otherwise intelligent people who delight in causing these problems. Should Microsoft loose more business to alternative systems, that these idiots will refocus their efforts elsewhere..
pa1916
I wouldn't trust Vista at the moment as it has already been hacked infact i would feel safer with W98,i would like to give Linux a go but can't get my head around it. jason.b.c
to alternative systems, that these idiots will refocus their efforts elsewhere..That's not likely to happen in a Linux system though , or the Mac system for that matter although Mac is easier to hack ( i guess ) than linux ( mac is more popular )..With a linux system you would first need the user's master password to even be able to get started breaking down the system , And then even at that there are still parts of the system that a ( what's known as a ) "Super User" can't touch.. The system just won't let you...
AlanHo
The simple truth is that there are so few Linux users compared with Windows - it is just not worth a hackers time in attacking you. They can earn so much more kudos in concentrating on Windows - and Vista will undoubtedly be their focus now.You are relatively safe whilst you are in such a tiny minority - but beware - if Linux ever becomes a major player then the baddies will turn their attention to attacking it - which they will do with relative ease. There is no such thing as an impregnable system - sooner or later you will have no reason to gloat. cozofdeath
If they released the source code I'm not sure if Windows would make it out alive. Several small leaks have already happened to MS illegally. I think with in one day exploits were released because they found holes in the code. Its still happening to MS. The last leak I heard of was in Sept. 2006. This has happened to a couple if not all the the recent OSs. Hackers have supposedly been selling exploits for Vista for up to 50,000 usd online. Just imagine the exploits that haven't been sold or what people don't know about. Theres tons for Linux, probably more than Windows. I would imagine it would be very easy to break in to a Linux computer that isn't constantly updated. Almost all exploits are release in C or Perl code so anyone knowing that and some about the OS could do it. Theres no need for viruses/downloaders/trojans if you can just get a remote shell with no problem. There are commercial programs that will exploit just about any OS, but of course its very expensive but if one of them were to get release to any of the warez groups anyone could break into computers. The free exploit frameworks like Metasploit's, allows anyone to take over machines connected to the internet if there not updated. Some of the remote holes are in security products like virus scanners or firewalls. Its crazy what people can do.
