AlanHo Posted January 9, 2007 Report Share Posted January 9, 2007 The reset button on my computer tower is about one inch below the DVD burner open/close button. The tower is floor mounted and I have to reach down to operate the buttons. I have lost count of the number of times I have inadvertently pressed the reset rather than the DVD drive button when inserting a disc.I did it again today and whilst the computer was rebooting, rather than cussing as usual, I decided to do something positive to prevent it happening in future .I found a bit of half inch bore black plastic tubing in the garage - cut off half an inch - and glued it around the reset button. To operate the reset now - you have to insert a little finger or a pencil in the tube making it very difficult to operate by accident. The black plastic matches the tower case and looks as though it was original.Anyone else with a similar problem . .....or are you too shy to admit being clumsy from time to time. If you'd ask anyone that knows me they'll probably say I'm not the brightest but when it comes to computers I'm ok. I'm glad someone admitted something like this. Scarecrow Man Posted January 9, 2007 Report Share Posted January 9, 2007 That's quite clever Alan.Have you ever thought about re-wiring the buttons to a seperate panel, which can be mounted wherever you like? Simple matter of splicing wires, although some electrical knowledge would help.It would be easy for the power and reset buttons, but I think the optical drive would be a bit of a trick, and might void the warranty. The reset button is about 20mm across and about 4mm thick and immediately below the main button. It would be very difficult to make a mistake.
