doug Posted February 3, 2007 Report Share Posted February 3, 2007 I know I'm now with talktalk but I don't think this problem is down to them. I'm using FireFox 2 upgraded from 1.5. My problem is that some web pages are taking forever to load. This is particularly with banking and our on-line shop with Tesco. All of which are crucial to us. I'm not getting the problems with IE 7 although some times the sites are slow because they are busy. I can log into the main pages without any problem. However, when I click on the sign in pages it can take forever. With ING direct the cpu useage goes up to 50% and freezes my PC and I have to use task manager to close the application. I have uninstalled FireFox via add/remove programs, run Ccleaner and defragged. Then downloaded Firefox ver. 2. I was surprised to find that all my bookmarks were still there together with McAfee siteadvisor that I recently installed - see an earlier thread. I must point out that This problem was exactly the same before installing McAfee. After reading your message I checked which FF I am using and it is 1.5.0.9. So I thought I would update on to 2.The recommendation on Moz. site is that this was advisable.I tried to update, using the normal method for Linux using Yumex, and that simply jacked it in because it could not find the necessary Mirrors. doug Posted February 4, 2007 Author Report Share Posted February 4, 2007 May have to andsome - at least for the critical things for the mo. I do like firefox though. Have just tried re-installing FF for the 3rd time! I don't seem to be able to clear out all the dross from previous installations in that Each time I do a fresh install the bookmarks are still there and I do get this freeze/lock up problem. I do have a back up of the bookmarks on a separate HDD. So any suggestions as to how I can do a compltely fresh install folks please reply. Then delete the folder "Mozilla Firefox" in your programs folder.Then delete the above folder. Then the folder located at C:\Documents and Settings\"user name"\Local Settings\Application Data\Mozilla.That should've got rid of everything apart from some registry entries. Then re-install FF. Seems to be a bit quicker but the login page for my bank is still jsut hanging. Don't think it's because it's busy as I can go in relatively quickly with IE. Any further suggestions? Try disabling the phishing filter. go to the Security panel on the Options window and uncheck "Tell me if the site I'm visiting is a suspected forgery." It must be a problem at my end 'cause sometimes these problem pages result in my P/C locking up at 50% Cpu utilisation. Did I say that before? Must be too many birthdays!
